A humanitarian crisis is in the making after more than 4,000 people abandoned their homes when Lake Baringo broke its banks due to heavy rains in most of the North Rift. According to residents, more than 19,000 people bordering Lake Baringo are at risk of being displaced should the rains persist for the next month. Floods have killed four people in Ilchamus Ward in Baringo South and also paralysed learning in more than 10 schools. The flash floods have affected more than 20 villages in Ng'ambo and Salabani and the number is expected to rise should the rains persist. The families have incurred losses amounting to millions of shillings to the rains that have been pounding the area for two weeks.
