LGU execs seek military rule until 2022home/News/Top Stories/LGU execs seek military rule until 2022SHARIFF AGUAK, Maguindanao: Executives of local government units (LGUs) in Maguindanao and Basilan provinces on Wednesday urged President Rodrigo Duterte to extend martial law in Mindanao not just for one more year but until his term ends in 2022. The LGU leaders in Maguindanao, where there is presence of Islamic State-inspired blocs, are very much in favor of an extension of military rule. He said martial law also restrained political warlords from bringing with them heavily-armed escorts when they go around. He said an extension of military rule could also ensure completion of infrastructure projects in hostile territories. Vice Mayor Furigay said martial law would help ensure peaceful elections in May 2019 in Mindanao’s politically troubled areas.
