The majority of our state wants sensible gun laws, from red flag laws to denying teens the right to buy military-style weapons. All of these proposals have the effect of diminishing attendance at our public schools while simultaneously reducing the overall funding of our public schools. It’s all we can do to support, improve and grow our existing public school systems. Providing for and encouraging other alternatives weakens our public schools and impacts the well-being, the health and the finances of our public school systems. Our elected representatives should be focused on managing and improving our existing public school resources for the benefit of all Texans.
