"You [law enforcement], are the most important allies in ensuring a fair election," he said. Mahbub urged law enforcement not to let their enthusiasm fuel undesirable actions. "If a peaceful election cannot be held in favourable conditions, 47 years after the independence of the country, then the liberation war martyrs sacrificed their lives in vain," the election commissioner added. The election commissioner requested all voters to come to the polling centres, without fear.
