PETALING JAYA: Manhattan's explosion was a shock to all New Yorkers and there was a fear that it was a reprise of the 9/11 attacks, said Malaysian Barani Krishnan. Barani, a journalist, said what was worrying was that reports cited New York mayor Bill de Blasio as saying that the blast was "intentional". Originally from Kuala Lumpur and formerly with The Star between 1989 and 1992, Barani said there had been another incident in neighbouring New Jersey, but that was unrelated according to de Blasio. Barani, who moved from Reuters Kuala Lumpur to New York in 2006, added that there were concerns in the city at every 9/11 anniversary. "The city is all psyched up a week ahead of each anniversary with police in full riot gear," he said.
