Organisations representing Muslim communities in Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead have issued a joint statement saying they are ‘enraged and hugely disappointed’ by the decision of MPs across the area not to back a vote calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Slough's Labour MP Tan Dhesi abstained along party lines while Maidenhead MP Theresa May, Windsor MP Adam Afriyie and Beaconsfield MP Joy Morrissey - all Conservatives - voted against the amendment. It said: “We, as representatives of the Muslim communities in Slough, Windsor, Maidenhead, South Bucks, and neighbouring areas are enraged and hugely disappointed that our local MPs chose not to vote for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Slough MP Tan Dhesi abstained from that vote, but instead voted in favour of the Labour amendment - a decision that has attracted criticism from some of his constituents. To those spreading lies I voted against #ceasefire: I abstained on others’ amendments but voted for Labour plan for “end to the violence”."
