(Photo: Pattanapong Hirunard)The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has reached a consensus that it has the authority to regulate over-the-top (OTT) platforms, and will embed this oversight in its upcoming Broadcasting and Television Master Plan (2026–2030). OTT services deliver video, audio and television content via the public internet. Consensus reachedA breakthrough came after commissioner Supachai Supachalasai proposed that the board move beyond discussions on the definition of OTT services to focus instead on policy direction. Issues such as the long-term roadmap for digital television broadcasting and the future of broadcast licensing frameworks remain under consideration.
