PCCI opposes Tacloban flight reroutingCebu City – Businessmen fear that the Department of Transportation (DOTr)’s plan to implement full rerouting of all Tacloban-Manila flights to Clark International Airport will hurt the economy of Eastern Visayas. Cebu City Map(Photo courtesy of Google Maps)This was the pronouncement of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) Tacloban-Leyte Chapter, which passed a resolution urging the DOT to reconsider and desist from implementing the plan. According to the traders’ group, the rerouting of 10 Tacloban-Manila daily flights from the Manila International Airport to Clark International Airport will “cause grave negative impact on the fragile regional economy and effectively kill the region’s tourism growth potential. To address the concerns of businessmen in Tacloban, Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Lloyd Dino is proposing for a 50-50 rerouting scheme for flights from Tacloban City and the rest of the Visayas to Luzon. What Dino is proposing is to redirect only 50% of the flights to Clark while the rest of the flights will continue to land at the airport in Manila.
