One of the victims was a baby caught in flames that spread rapidly through the eight-storey block in the 16th arrondissement. A total of 36 people were injured, including eight of the 250 firefighters called to the Rue Erlanger at about 1am. Firefighters used ladders to rescue residents from the roof and tackle flames APCaptain Clément Cognon, a spokesman for the Paris fire brigade, said: “This is a scene of incredible violence with almost the entire building in flames.”One firefighter with 17 years’ experience in the city said it was the worst he had seen in his career.
