The epic production deployed the visual and storytelling gifts of the British-born director Peter Brook, who, nearly 30 years later, is bringing “The Mahabharata”—or at least part of it—back to BAM in a new, 70-minute work called “Battlefield.” It runs Wednesday to Oct. 9. While the older show tackled the battle for power between two dynasties, “Battlefield” focuses on the devastating aftermath of war. Former BAM President Harvey Lichtenstein renovated a theater specifically for “The Mahabharata,” with a deliberately unfinished aesthetic.
