SNP shamed as deprived students in Scotland less likely to go to university than those in England

The SNP has been shamed after it was revealed that Scottish students from deprived backgrounds are far less likely to get into university than their counterparts in England. This figure plummets to 16 per cent for Scottish students of the same age and also from a deprived background. Although the number of students from deprived backgrounds in England going to university has grown 8 per cent, the corresponding increase in Scotland is 3 per cent lower, according to the analysis. It is shocking to see that fewer students in Scotland from deprived backgrounds are entering university compared with their counterparts in England. The SNP’s arbitrary yet stringent cap on the number of places offered to Scottish students each year means our universities are forced to turn away talented Scottish students.
