Sheriff's deputy saves life of an 11-month-old boy who stopped breathing when he swallowed a quarter

A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy is being hailed as a hero for saving the life of an 11-month-old who couldn’t breathe and lost consciousness after accidentally swallowing a coin. The incident took place on May 31 during a Black Lives Matter demonstration in Palmdale, which is about 60 miles north of Los Angeles. Surveillance video released on Thursday by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department shows a panicked woman with a limp child in her arms running across a supermarket parking lot. ‘Deputy Kinsey assessed the child, administered a mouth sweep with his finger and dislodged vomit.’The deputy turned the coin sideways to allow air to pass through the boy’s system. From there, he was airlifted to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where he underwent surgery to remove a quarter that was lodged in his throat.
