CAIRO – 3 January 2020: The Suez Canal Authority unveiled Sunday that the size of revenues achieved in 2020 is $5.61 billion, the third highest in the international waterway's history dating back to 1869. Chairman Osama Rabie pointed out that 18,829 ships crossed the Suez Canal carrying a total of 1.17 billion tons. It is noted that the highest revenues were achieved in 2019 when 18,880 ships crossed carrying a total of 1.21 billion tons. The chairman stated that the marketing plans set by the authority succeeded in attracting shipping lines that were not using the Suez Canal. Four crossings have been the first of their kind for the Suez Canal in 2020.
