Thailand oil supplies ‘sufficient for 110 days’

(Photo: Somchai Poomlard)Thailand’s oil supply remains sufficient for 110 days, according to the Ministry of Energy, which says daily diesel production has been averaging 83.2 million litres, with sales around 64.7 million litres per day. The ministry said total oil reserves consisted of 25 days’ worth of statutory reserves, 23 days of commercial reserves, 31 days’ worth of oil in transit, and 31 days of confirmed procurement. Prices at the pumps, meanwhile, remain heavily subsidised as authorities try to reduce the impact of soaring global energy costs on consumers, transport operators and businesses. As of Friday, the ministry said, the state Oil Fuel Fund had a deficit of 59.45 billion baht, with daily diesel subsidies amounting to 520 million baht. Diesel in Thailand, at 48.40 baht a litre, is also cheaper than in Cambodia, Malaysia, Laos, the Philippines, Myanmar and Singapore, where prices range from 55.27 to 117.72 baht.
