In a bid to help develop fifth generation or 5G internet connectivity in the U.K., the U.K. government has just announced that it has created a £1 million ($1.33 million) fund for U.K. businesses looking to partner with international companies on 5G research and development (R&D) projects. The grants are available through the U.K.'s innovation agency Innovate U.K. and the CELTIC-NEXT program, which is part of the EUREKA intergovernmental network that boosts international partnerships in market-driven R&D. The U.K.'s partnership in the EUREKA program is not thought to be under threat from Brexit. The fund monies should be used to help bring internet connectivity to the whole of the U.K. Alternatively, applicants must demonstrate that they are developing applications that use 5G networks for new or improved user experiences, including features in satellite networks or services integrating satellites.
