UNSC to hold two Libya meetings in April

The UN Security Council (UNSC) is due to convene two sessions on Libya this month, including a meeting on 14 April to consider renewing measures aimed at preventing the illicit export of oil. Council members are also expected to discuss extending the mandate of the Panel of Experts assisting the sanctions committee, as its current term approaches expiry. A second meeting is scheduled for 22 April, when the Council will receive its regular briefing on Libya. The UN envoy, Hanna Tetteh, is expected to present an update on political, security and humanitarian developments. The Council last year extended measures covering Libya’s oil sector until 1 May 2026, and renewed the Panel of Experts’ mandate until 15 May, with a review due by mid-April.
