Plastic waste illegally shipped to Malaysia has begun to arrive back in Britain as the Asian nation insists that it will not become a dumping ground for rich westerners. Malaysia promised to keep returning waste that is unfit for recycling. “We just want to send it back,” Yeo Bee Yin, the environment minister, said. “Malaysia is not the dumping site of the world . If people want to see us as the rubbish dump of the world, you dream on.”Ms Yeo said that Malaysia had returned 150 containers of plastic waste, amounting to 3,700 tonnes, since the second half of last year, 42 of them to Britain.
