Born with a rare form of muscular dystrophy, Peri Finkelstein has never let her disorder define her. Instead, the 24-year-old New Yorker has used her challenges as a springboard to make the world a better place, completing 12 marathons to raise funds for charity. Despite her physical limitations, she was inspired to start doing marathons in 2010 when her mother and brother began running them for charity. After several years of pushing that “extra mile,” Finkelstein experienced medical challenges in 2022 that made her unable to compete. “While I used to be an athlete, I am still just as competitive and am somewhat of an overachiever in the real world,” Finkelstein said.

The announcement highlights an issue — safe drinking water — that Kamala Harris has prioritized as vice president and during her presidential campaign. Biden and Harris believe it’s “a moral imperative” to ensure that everyone has access to clean drinking water, EPA Administrator Michael Regan told reporters Monday. But the science has been clear for decades: There is no safe level of lead in our drinking water.'' Lead pipes can corrode and contaminate drinking water; removing them sharply reduces the chance of a crisis. The infrastructure law approved in 2021 provided $15 billion to help cities replace their lead pipes, but the total cost will be several times higher.

(CNN) - A grisly discovery was made in Washington state. The Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County says workers rescued about 100 cats from an abandoned apartment in Federal Way, a city near Seattle. The humane society says many of the cats were infested with fleas and did not have food or water to drink. It is still unclear how so many cats ended up in the apartment. The humane society says it already is caring for hundreds of animals and the discovery of the abandoned cats is putting a strain on the group’s resources.
