HÀ NỘI — Minister of Foreign Affairs Bùi Thanh Sơn joined representatives of 70 countries and relevant international organisations at a virtual ministerial meeting to launch the global coalition to address synthetic drugs on July 7 (US time) under an initiative of United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Delegates expressed their deep concerns about criminal activities related to the production, transportation and trafficking of drugs, and the negative effects of drug active ingredients on public health and social security. Challenges that the synthetic drug problem poses to sustainable development such as poverty reduction, education and employment security were also put on the table. Delegates pledged to coordinate actions at the national, regional and international levels in drug prevention and control, based on science and transparent information, and a comprehensive and balanced approach. HCM CITY — Vietjet will offer free Sky Care comprehensive travel insurance on all domestic and international flights for all passengers of all ticket classes to bring them a happy and safe flying experience. Last week, Vietjet announced to increase the frequency of its direct flights to Australia to 34 flights per week to respond to the traveling demands of the peak season. Flights of HCM City- Melbourne and HCM City- Sydney routes will be increased to seven per each. Vietjet will also increase its flights between HCM City and Brisbane to three return flights per week. From December 6, 2023, flights from HCM City to Brisbane will depart on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays.

Hanoi (VNA) - Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr on July 7 signed into law a reform measure that writes off about 1.04 billion USD of debts owed by more than 600,000 farmers to help them boost production. Speaking at the ceremony, President Marcos said that this is a measure that the government rolls out to help farmers deal with this huge debt. In addition, the government will spend an additional 206 million pesos (3.6 million USD) to compensate landowners who have transferred their properties to others. In 1988, about 4.8 million hectares of land, or 16% of the country's area - was allocated to 3 million farmers who did not own land. President Marcos has underscored the priority of recovering the agricultural sector and making it a growth motivation for the Philippine economy./.

Eight parties holding the majority seats in the lower house said they were united in their decision to vote for Move Forward party leader Pita Limjaroenrat.The journey for the next Prime Minister and the new government coalition is approaching its critical point, with the parliament now expected to hold a vote for Prime Minister soon, following the vote for House Speaker.According to Wissanu Krea-ngam, Deputy Prime Minister of the caretaker government, the parliament will now submit the names of persons nominated as House Speaker and two corresponding deputies to His Majesty the King for official proclamation.Following the proclamation, the House Speaker, whose official title is President of the National Assembly, will then confer with the President of the Senate, to schedule an appropriate date for a National Assembly session, in which members of both the upper and lower houses will vote for Prime Minister. The caretaker government will remain in power until the day on which the new Prime Minister and Cabinet swear in.The eight parties led by Move Forward party (MFP), who secured the highest number of seats in the House of Representatives, have expressed their unity in the forming of the MFP-led government coalition, with MFP leader Pita Limjaroenrat serving as Prime Minister. Pheu Thai party leader Dr. Chonlanan Srikaew said the eight parties will mutually nominate Pita for the Prime Ministerial vote, and will try to secure the most votes possible to reach the minimum 376 votes required.Dr Chonlanan stressed that his party does not have a backup plan in place, in case Pita faces major political obstacles. HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) and Đông Bắc Corporation strive to supply about 48.35 million tonnes of coal for thermal power plants, an increase of about 10-15 per cent compared to 2022. In May alone, TKV made additional deliveries of about 300,000 tonnes of coal for the thermal power plants of the Vietnam Electricity (EVN). In June alone, the corporation delivered nearly one million tonnes of coal to thermal power plants, the highest level ever. To deal with this situation, the thermal power plants nationwide and, in particular, the northern region of the country, are operating at full capacity while implementing alternating power cuts. Quảng Ninh is now a thermal power centre in the North with seven thermal power plants operating at full capacity to meet increasing electricity demand.

The Republic of Korea (RoK) and China took the third and fourth places, respectively. In June alone, more than 12,600 Vietnamese laborers went abroad, mostly to Japan and Taiwan.
