Vietnam is determined to implement the commitments with the support of the international community, he stressed, saying that this is one of the major and urgent tasks of the country in the time to come.Vietnam will continue to act promptly, strongly and comprehensively, especially in the field of energy transition and infrastructure development to adapt to climate changes, thus turning the commitments into reality, stated the NA leader.Hue underlined that the Vietnamese NA will promote its role in law building, supervising and allocation budget to ensure the implementation of Vietnam’s climate commitments at COP26, including the institutionalisation of commitments and the strengthening of investment to research and development activities, the use of clean technologies and the speeding up of solutions for green growth.Along with supervising the Government’s implementation of national planning and adjusting and supplementing planning related to green growth, the NA has decided budget allocation for the realisation of SDGs towards green growth and the implementation of climate commitments, he said.Holding that like other developing countries, Vietnam is likely to face difficulties and challenges during the implementation of the commitments, the leader underlined the significance of support from international partner, including the UK, in the process.In order to reach net-zero emission by 2050, NA Chairman Hue proposed that Vietnam and the UK continue to strengthen collaboration in greenhouse gas emission reduction and climate change response. Documentary on President Ho Chi Minh screened in Algeria
A scene in the documentary (Photo: hochiminh.vn)– A French-language documentary titled “Ho Chi Minh: Sketching the Portrait of a Politician” was screened in June 29 by the Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria.The 58-minute documentary was produced in 1973 by French director Gérard Guillaume. It was copyrighted and stored by Ciné-Archives of the French Communist Party. The Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria purchased the copyright to use the copy for screening.It reflects the revolutionary career of President Ho Chi Minh since his participation in the Tours Congress in 1920 and his journey to fight for the national independence. The documentary presents archives and interviews with historical figures.Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Vinh emphasised the role of the late President in the struggle for national independence, affirming that Vietnam's resistance war is a great source of encouragement for oppressed peoples around the world, including Algeria.The documentary was broadcast in Vietnam for the first time on May 15, 2019./.

Vietnam, China agree on measures to further promote parliamentary ties

(Photo: VNA)VNA– Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Tran Thanh Man and Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of China Wang Chen held online talks on June 29.They shared the view that relations between the two Parties and countries have continued thriving, with all-level exchanges and meetings held frequently in flexible forms. In particular, the Party general secretaries of Vietnam and China have had four phone talks in two straight years, helping enhance political trust and identify strategic orientations for the healthy and stable development of the two Parties and countries’ relations.The vice chairmen affirmed that the practical and effective cooperation between the two legislatures form an important part of ties between the two Parties and countries. Given this, they agreed to order their respective sides’ relevant agencies to fruitfully carry out the cooperation agreement signed in 2015 between the Vietnamese NA and the Chinese NPC, and implement the cooperation activities agreed on at the virtual talks between NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and his Chinese counterpart Li Zhanshu in June 2021.To further promote Vietnam - China connections, including parliamentary ties, Man asked the two sides to keep increasing strategic discussion and reinforcing political trust via high-level meetings; boost cooperation in all aspects to obtain substantive progress, including stepping up partnerships in economy - trade - investment, culture - education, and COVID-19 fight; continue cooperating to deal with problems arising during the cooperation process in a timely manner; and soon resume normal travel activities between the countries.Vietnam hopes that bilateral high-level mutual visits will be organised soon in 2022, he noted.He said the two parliaments should work closely together to monitor Vietnamese and Chinese agencies, ministries, sectors, and localities’ implementation of the three legal documents on land border between the two countries while taking measures to handle issues emerging in a timely and thorough manner, helping build a borderline of peace, stability, cooperation, and sustainable development.The Vietnamese official also called on the NPC to promote Chinese ministries, sectors, and localities’ creation of favourable conditions for export - import activities at the countries’ border gates in order to address the goods congestion there, thus maintaining stable supply chains, and guaranteeing businesses’ interests and people’s livelihoods in both sides.Regarding the East Sea issue, Man reaffirmed that Vietnam and China need to keep coordination to sustain peace and stability; control and properly resolve sea-related issues; seriously comply with the common perceptions and agreements reached between the two Parties and countries’ leaders, especially the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues; and persistently settle sea-related issues by peaceful means in line with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).He also asked the legislative bodies to strengthen coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums, boost exchanging opinions between NA and NPC delegations at international and regional inter-parliamentary organisations, and work with each other to ensure the implementation of the international treaties to which both Vietnam and China are parties.Sharing Man’s view on the need to reinforce parliamentary ties, Wang said NPC leaders always pay attention to and strive to enhance the two Parties and countries’ relations, as well as cooperation between their legislatures.He underlined the importance of consolidating the Vietnam - China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, noting China wishes to join Vietnam to bring into play their traditional friendship, enhance political trust, and further intensify win-win cooperation, thereby bringing more benefits to the two countries' people and contributing to regional and international development, stability, and prosperity.He also agreed on the necessity for continued exchanges and contact at all levels and expressed the Chinese side’s readiness to join hands with the Vietnamese NA to fruitfully carry out the two parliaments’ cooperation deal. Vietnam eyes stronger development of Halal industry

Vietnam pledges to effectively manage small arms, light weapons

(File photo: VNA)– A Vietnamese representative affirmed the country's commitment to effectively manage small arms and light weapons, while attending an ongoing meeting held at the UN headquarters in New York.The 8th biennial meeting of states to consider the implementation of the Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects (PoA) kicked off on June 27.In her remarks, Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Tra, Deputy Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, shared other states’ concern about multifaceted impacts of illegal activities related to small arms and light weapons on global security, stability, and development.She highly valued recent efforts, including the PoA implementation, to prevent the illicit trade in small arms, pointing out the necessity to augment international cooperation on the basis of each state’s demand and resources, including in helping with capacity building.Apart from ensuring states’ leading role in preventing, combating and eradicating the illicit trade, international cooperation in this area also needs to take into account their right of self-defence , the diplomat noted.Tra re-affirmed Vietnam’s commitment to fully implement the PoA, adding that it has been building a legal framework that covers the management of small arms and light weapons and also taking part in relevant regional mechanisms.At the five-day meeting, participants voiced concerns over the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons, which has a role to play in prolonging conflicts and worsening the crime situation in the world, thus negatively affecting international peace and security.They stressed their countries’ commitment to fully and effectively implement the PoA.In the PoA, adopted by all UN member states in 2001, they agreed to improve regulations on small arms, enhance the management over stockpiles, ensure weapons are properly marked, strengthen cooperation in weapon tracing, and encourage the engagement in international cooperation at regional and global levels./.

Vietnam, UK legislatures will find common ground for closer cooperation: VUKN Chairman

(Photo: VNA)– Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and his entourage will make good use of the visit to the United Kingdom (UK) to develop further links between the two countries' parliamentarians, according to Mr. Warwick Morris , Chairman of Vietnam-UK Network (VUKN).Even though there are differences between the two systems, the two sides will find plenty of common ground, which hopefully will lead to closer cooperation and dialogue in bilateral parliamentary relations, Mr. Morris, who is also former British Ambassador to Vietnam, told Vietnam News Agency ahead of Hue’s official visit to the UK from June 28 – 30.Mr. He also said he believes British tourists will soon be flooding back to Vietnam following the welcome lifting of COVID-19 restrictions.As for links between parliamentarians, Mr. Morris said these were starting to be developed when COVID-19 intervened. However, he said both sides are keen to take matters forward and have more exchanges, recalling a very positive initial virtual meeting between several parliamentarians from both countries in October 2020.
