Vietnam-Thailand deal on mutual judicial assistance in civil matters approved
– President Vo Van Thuong has signed a decision approving the agreement on mutual judicial assistance in civil matters between Vietnam and Thailand.The approval was made as proposed by the Government on April 27.The agreement is expected to create a legal basis for the requests for judicial assistance in civil matters and the timely provision of help for settling civil disputes, thereby guaranteeing the rights and legitimate interests of individuals and organisations in the two countries and enhancing relations in civil, trade, and economic aspects to contribute to socio-economic development in Vietnam and Thailand along with their traditional friendship.The approval of this agreement aims to help implement the Party and State’s policy on strengthening cooperation with international partners in legal and judicial matters. It also looks to help perfect the legal mechanism for protecting the rights and legitimate interests of Vietnamese citizens and entities abroad, including the 13th Party Central Committee’s Resolution No 27-NQ/TW, dated November 9, 2022, on the continuation of building and perfecting the law-governed socialist State of Vietnam in the new period./.

Seminar spotlights Vietnam-France relations

The event was jointly organised by the Department of International Relations of the French Institute for Advanced National Defense Studies'(IHEDN) and the institute’s Alumni Association. It aims to provide an overview of Vietnam’s foreign policy on the region from academic and practical perspectives as well as Vietnam-France relations within the framework of the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties. The strengthening of bilateral relations with Vietnam and ASEAN as well as each member country was also touched upon.

Vietnam attends EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum in Sweden
Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Le Thi Thu Hang, attended the EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum in Stockholm, Sweden organized by Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell Fontelles on 13 May 2023. At the forum, Hang shared her perspectives on challenges that economies around the world are facing and emphasized the importance of “cooperation, coordination and connectivity” that countries need in order to approach each problem. According to Vietnam News, the official affirmed that Vietnam appreciates European partners’ financial commitments on climate change and hopes for their continued support to achieve the net zero emission target. The aim of hosting the forum is to open opportunities for European and Indo-Pacific countries to discuss ideas and problems, said Josep Borrell. Moreover, it is for the related countries to strengthen their relationships and cooperation in different sectors, for instance, maritime security.

Indonesia, India’s navies conduct joint exercise

The Indian Navy has deployed its indigenously built anti-submarine warfare corvette INS Kavaratti, a Dornier maritime patrol aircraft and a Chetak chopper for the Samudra Shakti exercise. Meanwhile, the Indonesian Navy is being represented at the exercise by warship KRI Sultan Iskandar Muda, CN 235 maritime patrol aircraft and AS565 Mbe Panther helicopter. It revealed that during the sea phase, weapon firing, helicopter operations, anti-submarine warfare and air defence exercises and boarding operations are planned. Samudra Shakti will showcase a high level of interoperability between the two navies and their shared commitment towards peace and stability in the region, it added./.

SEA Games 32: Regional countries make strong investment in Vovinam

Leaders of Vietnam, Indonesia laud strides in bilateral relations

(Photo: VNA)– Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo shortly after arriving in Labuan Bajo of the archipelago nation on May 9 afternoon to attend the 42nd ASEAN Summit.Recalling his visit to Indonesia in 2021, also his first overseas trip as the PM of Vietnam, PM Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to further promote the strategic partnership between the two countries.Both host and guest applauded strong strides in the bilateral relations in all spheres, agreeing to further bring into play the traditional close-knit friendship so as to create momentum for the strategic partnership to reach a new height.The bilateral relations are not only strategic to the two countries but also contribute to regional peace, stability, and development, they said.The two leaders agreed that Vietnam and Indonesia will increase delegation exchanges and meetings at all levels, especially amid the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership this year; capitalise on bilateral cooperation mechanisms, including the Committee for Bilateral Cooperation and the Joint Committee for Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation; actively carry out the signed agreements, including the action plan for implementing the Vietnam - Indonesia strategic partnership for 2019 -2023; and build an action plan for 2024 - 2028 early to provide a basis for promoting more intensive and extensive cooperation.PM Chinh suggested both sides maintain the current trade growth to raise the revenue to 15 billion USD or higher by 2028 and in a more balanced manner. He also proposed Indonesia create optimal conditions for Vietnamese goods to access its market and enhance maritime cooperation, including the setting up of a hotline to support fishing activities and sharing information about law enforcement at sea.Voicing support for his guest’s cooperation proposals, President Widodo stated Indonesia always treasures and hopes to further strengthen the strategic partnership with Vietnam.The two leaders also agreed to bolster ties in new areas such as energy transition, digital transformation, and infrastructure development.Talking about some regional and international issues of shared concern, PM Chinh said Vietnam will continue cooperating with and supporting Indonesia to successfully hold the 2023 ASEAN Chairmanship, thus helping intensify the bloc’s solidarity, unity, resilience, and centrality.With regard to the East Sea issue, they reaffirmed their support for maintaining ASEAN’s solidarity, centrality, and common stance on the issue; fully implementing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC); and promoting negotiations to soon achieve an efficient and effective Code of Conduct (COC) in the East Sea that matches international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).On this occasion, PM Chinh invited President Widodo to re-visit Vietnam in the near future./.
