First-ever White Book on Social Impact Business launched
HÀ NỘI The first-ever White Book on Social Impact Business in Việt Nam 2023 was launched, enabling SIBs to be clearly identified, thereby raising the possibility of them benefitting from support programmes of the government and other stakeholders. The White Book on Social Impact Business in Việt Nam was developed within the framework of the project “Leveraging Việt Nam’s Social Impact Business Ecosystem in Response to COVID-19” (ISEE-COVID), co-implemented by UNDP and the Agency for Enterprise Development (AED) under the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) with support from Global Affairs Canada (GAC). Social impact businesses (SIBs), government agencies, investors and intermediaries gathered at the SIB Connect 2023 event in Hà Nội on Tuesday. This is the annual festival of the SIB Ecosystem to exchange initiatives, lessons learned, and discuss challenges and opportunities in the ecosystem’s development. “The White Paper enables Social Impact Businesses to be officially identified, helping them access government support programmes and other programmes.

It is currently listed in the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and in the Red Data Book of Vietnam Black-faced spoonbills feed on fish and shrimp in shallow water such as tidal-flats, swamps, ponds and flooded areas in fresh, salt and brackish waters. Vietnam, Laos seek to boost digital economy via innovation cooperation

Survey reveals status of wildlife in Việt Nam
The survey, carried out by USAID’s Biodiversity Conservation Activity, represents the most comprehensive and systematic biodiversity survey ever conducted in Việt Nam and builds on previous USAID-supported projects in the country to monitor biodiversity and forest cover. Nick Cox, Chief of Party, USAID Biodiversity Conservation, implemented by WWF, stated: “For the first time we have the data to confirm Việt Nam’s wildlife populations are in dire straits. At the same time there are signs that investments by the Việt Nam Government, and by local and international NGOs, have had a positive impact. Last year, the USAID Biodiversity Conservation Activity launched a US$1.4 million Species Conservation Fund (SCF) in Việt Nam to support locally-led conservation efforts initiated by Vietnamese NGOs and other independent organisations. SCF is a part of the $38 million USAID Biodiversity Conservation Activity and aims to strengthen biodiversity conservation in Việt Nam, especially through local organisations.

Proposal to transfer management of petroleum reserve to finance ministry
The proposal was raised in the ministry’s report to the Government about the national petroleum reserve. In Việt Nam, petroleum reserves are kept in two forms: reserve by businesses and the national reserve. This has caused a shortage of resources for investing in infrastructure for petroleum reserve, the industry and trade ministry said. In addition, the Ministry of Finance has not issued the criteria for the national reserve of petroleum products, which has caused difficulties in management. It was previously estimated that Việt Nam would need around VNĐ4.1 trillion per year to increase the national petroleum reserve.

Vietnam, India launch joint military exercise for UN peacekeeping operations

Col. Aseem Gupta, head of the Indian army delegation, said the event focuses on deploying engineering and medical units to carry out the UN mission, thus promoting positive military cooperation between the two armies. The first event was held in India in 2018, and the second in Vietnam in 2019. Later, the 2022 edition in India was expanded and upgraded to a field exercise, as agreed by leaders of the two ministries.
