YAOUNDE, Oct 23 (Reuters) - Over 30 people, likely including students from neighbouring Chad, have been kidnapped by suspected bandits in northern Cameroon, the mayor of the local town of Touboro said on Monday. Cameroon is facing multiple security crises including an insurgency by Islamist group Boko Haram in its Far North region, and a separatist conflict in its English-speaking west. He did not know the identity of the victims but said it was probable that Chadian students were among them. Students from Chad take the road through Touboro to get to the city of Ngaoundere, where there is a university. A local Chadian news site, Toumaï Web Médias, cited unidentified sources as saying that 25 Chadian students were kidnapped on their way to Ngaoundere on Sunday, and that six had been released.

Earlier this year the first overseas version debuted in Morocco in North Africa, and an even bigger return is planned for May 2024. For many years, it was called GITEX Technology Week or simply GITEX Dubai. After 42 years, the iconic technology tradeshow, like the country which hosts it, is no longer content with being a regional technology powerhouse. Events are events and the jury is still out on how much of an influence a technology tradeshow has on helping to create thriving technology ecosystems. Some African technology companies primarily serving North African countries like Egypt or West African markets like Nigeria have their headquarters in the city.

Scammers pose as charitable organizations, employing emotionally charged language to entice users to click on fraudulent website links, where they are urged to make contributions. 3 If you’re uncertain about an organization, consider donating to well-known humanitarian support organizations, such as United Nations relief agencies. Requests to send money should be treated with extra vigilance. Fake websites may closely resemble genuine charity sites, with the details of where to send donations being the only difference. 6 Exercise caution on social media.

Tanzania's government signed Sunday (Oct. 22) a port management deal with Dubai-based DP World. The deal was signed in the presence of Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan who was hopeful the deals would boost exchanges with landlocked neighbouring countries and reduce unloading times at country's largest port. The opposition and civil society have protested the government decision to have a foreign logistics company manage Tanzania’s ports. The government has said the move would increase port efficiency and grow the country’s economy. Tanzania has made some reforms since the death in 2021 of President Magufuli, who cracked down on critics and introduced draconian laws.
