We believe through this therapeutic intervention, we will provide a novel treatment option for ATTR-CM patients, offering them new hope and an improved quality of life.”This study is a part of YolTech’s series of clinical trials in vivo gene editing. mRNA, in the cytoplasm, binds to ribosomes, translating the base editor protein. The base editor protein, in combination with sgRNA, enters the cell nucleus. sgRNA specifically locates the base editor to the TTR gene sequence, and the base editor protein modifies the bases on the target TTR gene, preventing its normal transcription into mRNA. It has created a pipeline with 10+ genetic medicines focusing on cardiovascular diseases, metabolic diseases, infectious diseases as well as more common and rare diseases.

Filmmaker Lautaro García Candela set out to portray this world and spoke to them for months. The end result is his most recent film — Cambio, cambio (Exchange, exchange), titled after the catchphrase arbolitos blurt out all around Florida street. “Everything started when I moved to microcentro in 2019, three blocks away from the corner of Florida and Lavalle,” García Candela told the Herald. A lot of people went to exchange dollars with the actors while we were shooting! “It’s difficult to see the idea of closing the INCAA as anything else than ignorance — leaving everything to the market is a wrong idea,” García Candela said.

“Look at the state, a monster that grows by itself,” he added. Ferraro’s comments follow statements made on Thursday by Economy Minister Luis Caputo, who said that dollarization and the closing of the Central Bank are still key goals of the national government. A report by the 1816 consulting firm even raised the question if Caputo would carry out a “stabilization plan” or “a transition towards dollarization”. In a seminar on Friday organized by Adcap Grupo Financiero, PxQ consulting firm director Emmanuel Álvarez Agis said that the government should abandon the idea. “I think we have to stop talking about dollarization because the market is going to start getting nervous,” he said.

These mass killings, which took place mostly between 2002 and 2008, became known as the “false positives” scandal. Now, a group of human rights lawyers and relatives of the victims are seeking to try Colombia’s former President Álvaro Uribe in Argentine courts over the killings. The plaintiffs chose Argentina because it’s a Spanish-speaking country with broad universal jurisdiction laws and a track record of prosecuting human rights crimes. While universal jurisdiction laws exist in several countries, they often require some kind of connection with the nation — Germany’s universal jurisdiction requires that the accused be resident in the country, for example. Human rights investigations conducted while Uribe was still in office demonstrate that he knew the mass killings were taking place.

“There’s no money,” proclaimed President Javier Milei during his presidential inauguration speech on Sunday. In the days that followed, Milei made good on his campaign promise to take a chainsaw to government spending. Later in the day, Economy Minister Luis Caputo posted an 18-minute video outlining the government’s idea of shock therapy. The economy minister also announced a sharp reduction in subsidies for utility, as well as for transport in Greater Buenos Aires, which is home to roughly a third of Argentina’s population. Given all of that, everyone — government and opposition alike — is asking themselves a few questions: how long will Milei maintain social legitimacy?

Argentina’s monthly inflation rate was 12.8% in November, according to the National Institute for Statistics and Census (INDEC, for its Spanish acronym). November’s inflation rate is the last one that will fully reflect Alberto Fernández’s presidency, as twenty December days will have been presided over by Javier Milei. Year-on-year inflation hit 160.9%, and the accumulated inflation for the first eleven months of 2023 was 148.2%, according to Wednesday’s report. According to JP Morgan, Argentina’s inflation rate will become substantially higher in the following months after Tuesday’s 54% devaluation of the peso. “Let it be clear, those who were middle middle class, have just been thrown into poverty with a just a click, creating the illusion that there was no other possible way.”

Cuts to public transport subsidies are likely to begin on January 1, President Javier Milei’s spokesperson Manuel Adorni told a press conference on Wednesday morning. Many people who live in the Buenos Aires suburbs make long trips to work each day, sometimes taking three buses. The measure will affect trains and buses in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area (AMBA), as well as the Buenos Aires Subte. At present, bus fares cost between AR$52.96 to AR$72.61 in Greater Buenos Aires (US$0.06-0.08 at the official rate, US$0.05-$0.07 at the MEP rate). Boca Juniors elections are set to go through this Sunday after the Appeals Court decided to overturn judge Alejandra Abrebaya’s decision to suspend them on November 28. The nearly 100,000 Boca members will be cleared to stop by the La Bombonera Stadium, where the voting will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., the club confirmed via communiqué. “It is with great happiness that Boca Juniors tells its club members and fans that elections to choose club authorities until 2027 will take place this Sunday,” read the statement. Furthermore, it stated that the complaint did not request they be returned to “adherent member,” a different member status that isn’t allowed to vote in the elections. Moreover, the court stated the judge failed to hear their case, adding that the suspension of the elections would require a high degree of certainty in the claims, which they did not find.

President Javier Milei’s government reduced the number of ministries and secretariats by 50% and 49%, respectively, to cut public spending, presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni said in a press conference on Tuesday morning. “There’s no money, and that has to be reflected in concrete measures like the [presidential decree that modifies the number of] ministries and the reduction of state structure,” Adorni said. According to newly appointed Unión por la Patria national deputy Julia Strada, the elimination of the nine ministries, 50 secretariats, and 42 undersecretariats Adorni announced means a reduction of AR$3.2 billion in public expenditure. La eliminación de 9 cargos de rango ministerial, 50 secretarías y 42 subsecretarías suma cerca de $3.200 millones (sueldos + cargas sociales). On the other hand, the spokesman revealed that Economy Minister Luis Caputo will not offer a live press conference to announce his first economic measures.

President Javier Milei’s first cabinet meeting focused on the “reorganization of the state,” primarily through large public spending cuts and revising the contracts of all state employees to “detect irregularities,” presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni said during brief remarks to press at the Casa Rosada presidential palace. “The financial disarray was the headline of the meeting,” Adorni said. The Herald also saw future Central Bank chief Santiago Bausili enter the Casa Rosada minutes before the meeting started. The government will move forward with “large fiscal cuts with certain expansion in social [welfare] spending,” which will be accompanied by “eliminating privileges,” Adorni said during the press conference. The government will also require public employees to work all of their hours in person from now on, Adorni said.

Argentina’s Central Bank announced on Monday morning that any foreign exchange operations in the official currency market would require “prior approval,” meaning that the day will, in practice, be an exchange holiday. Central Bank sources told the Herald that the institution’s new authorities have yet to take office and the resignations of the outgoing administration have yet to be accepted. For that reason, the current Central Bank president, Miguel Pesce, will continue to serve until the arrival of Santiago Bausili, who is new Economy Minister Luis Caputo’s man. “The measure was passed in order to give the Executive Power time to comply with the administrative procedures to consolidate the new authorities and implement the policies it will pursue,” the Central Bank wrote in a statement. The decision was taken by the Central Bank in the face of the situation this Monday, in which the resignations of the outgoing team have yet to be accepted and the incoming authorities have not yet arrived to take over.
