KYIV, Ukraine, March 14, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - Russian drone and missile strikes near Ukraine's capital killed three people and wounded several, the regional military administration said on Saturday. "The death toll in the Kyiv region has risen to three," said Mykola Kalashnyk, the head of Kyiv region's military administration, in a post on Telegram. In an earlier post, Kalashnyk had said a "massive attack" by drones and missiles killed two people and wounded four near the capital. Peace talks spearheaded by the United States aiming to halt more than four years of fighting have been derailed by the US-Israeli war with Iran. Russia's invasion sparked the bloodiest war in Europe since World War II, forcing the displacement of millions and killing hundreds of thousands of soldiers and civilians on both sides.

SEOUL, March 14, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok said Saturday that US President Donald Trump thinks a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un would be "good". Seoul's Kim, who met Trump in Washington, said the US president told him: "Meeting (Kim Jong Un) would be good. Kim told reporters in the United States that he and Trump agreed that if a meeting with Kim Jong Un "happens soon, or around the time of the China visit, that would in itself be meaningful." Trump said during a trip to Asia in October that he was "100 percent" open to meeting with Kim Jong Un, a remark that went unanswered by the North. After largely ignoring those overtures for months, Kim Jong Un recently said that the two nations could "get along" if Washington accepted Pyongyang's nuclear status.

American universities have absorbed society’s obsession with what is profitable over what is valuable. There are no grades to chase, only detailed feedback and Socratic dialogue that pushes students toward better argumentation. In many American universities, the incentives point in a very different direction. Leading American universities charge over $100,000 in tuition annually, as graduates sink deeper into spiraling debt. American universities need smaller discussion groups and curricula that build in more time for reading primary texts.

Prior to this comment, Wenders had also said: “Movies can change the world” but “not in a political way. Of course, Wenders’ take seems to ignore the plethora of explicitly political filmmakers that exist. What does he make of François Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard leading a shutdown of the Cannes Film Festival in May of 1968, for example? Why is it “every film is political” until the jury is asked about Palestine, and then suddenly filmmakers should not be political? Wenders’ comments feel particularly ridiculous when he has praised past political actions the Berlinale has taken (such as disinviting far-right politicians).

We need to care about art before we can expect those with more money, more influence or more power to do so. Art conveys human experience, and, in a way, art has become the human experience. The Sun is interested in publishing a broad and diverse set of content from the Cornell and greater Ithaca community. Arts & Culture wants to hear what you have to say about the arts, our cultural moment and our creative community at large. We welcome guest pieces for our guest column, Be Our Guest.
