Malaysian immigration authorities have sent back 80 more Bangladeshi nationals from Kuala Lumpur International Airport after they “failed” to meet the required conditions for entry on tourist visas. A total of 99 foreigners, including 80 Bangladeshis, were detained following checks on over 400 passengers. In a statement issued on Saturday, the MCBA said all those denied entry were male, including 80 Bangladeshis, 10 Indians and nine Pakistanis. The airport operations will be strengthened to prevent human trafficking and misuse of tourist visas, the statement said. All of them had entered Malaysia on tourist visas.

Police have arrested five people, including a leader of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, in allegations of extortion in Dhaka’s Gulshan. They were arrested from in front of a house in Gulshan No. 2 on Saturday evening, said Al Amin Hossein, additional deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Gulshan Division. Among the arrestees, Riad is among the joint conveners of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement’s private university wing. Police have arrested three men in connection with the alleged gang rape of a woman who boarded the wrong train in Dhaka after she got off at Tangail Rail Station. She was headed to Chattogram and came from Nasirnagar to the Dhaka Airport Rail Station on Friday night. In the morning, the survivor went to the railway station and informed police about the rape. The railway police informed the Tangail Police Station, and law enforcers conducted a drive and arrested the three men on Saturday morning. Three more people have died of dengue in the past 24 hours, while 331 patients have been hospitalised nationwide as the death toll from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease rose to 73 so far this year. A total of 19,120 people have now been admitted to hospitals this year due to the disease. So far, 31 people have died of dengue in July, marking the highest monthly tally this year. The highest number of new patients admitted in the past 24 hours was in the Barishal Division, with 132. Currently, 1,354 patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals across the country with dengue, 370 in Dhaka, and 984 outside the capital.

A man has been stabbed to death in an attack in front of the Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur. The victim was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at 3pm on Saturday, where the doctor-on-duty declared him dead, according to Inspector Md Faruk, the officer-in-charge of the hospital’s police outpost.
