What appears to be a national conversation about reform, democracy, and stability is better understood as a political economy of discourse shaped by incentives, risks, and timing. To understand Bangladesh’s current political discourse, it is not enough to look at what political actors are saying. This is where political discourse becomes cautious and defensive. It is the political economy of transition itself, which incentivises caution, fragmentation, and narrative management. After Animal Control‘s special Season 4 premiere during Christmas week, the hilariously acerbic comedy about Seattle critter catchers paws into its regular timeslot on January 15. He and Frank are going to be vying all season for control of the precinct,” Quill says. This will lead to a heated rivalry between the men (but not that kind), who will spend part of the season jockeying for “the Animal Control Officer of the Year Award,” laughs Quill. “It’s a secret relationship, and a couple of different, key people gradually find out throughout the season,” he continues. KATHMANDU, Jan 15, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - Nepal's oldest political party, Nepali Congress, has split ahead of March general elections, with the dissident party faction unanimously electing a new president. The rupture adds to Nepal's turbulent political environment, after nationwide protests in September over corruption, governance failures and demands for political renewal ousted the previous government. "I am grateful to you all," newly-elected party president Gagan Thapa said, in a speech in the early hours of Thursday morning. "You have given me the responsibility of the president of a party like Nepali Congress, this is not a small responsibility. Questions remain on which Nepali Congress faction is now legitimate -- and will be able to use to the iconic tree symbol and party flag during the election scheduled for March 5.

Trump says Iran killings stopped, Tehran says 'no plan for hanging'WASHINGTON, United States, Jan 15, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - US President Donald Trump said Wednesday he had been told the killings of protesters in Iran had been halted, but added that he would "watch it and see" about threatened military action. Trump has threatened to intervene militarily in Iran several times since the protest movement that has shaken the country began in late December. Rights monitors say that under cover of a five-day internet blackout, Iranian authorities are carrying out their harshest repression in years against demonstrations openly challenging the theocratic system. In Tehran, authorities held a funeral for more than 100 security personnel and other "martyrs" killed in the unrest, which officials have branded "acts of terror." Iran Human Rights, based in Norway, said security forces had killed at least 3,428 protesters and arrested more than 10,000.

HONG KONG, Jan 15, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - Oil and precious metals slid Thursday after US President Donald Trump appeared to dial down threats of imminent military action on Iran, while Asian markets were mixed after Wall Street edged lower the previous day. Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taipei, Wellington, Mumbai and Kuala Lumpur fell on Thursday, while Sydney, Seoul, Bangkok and Manila posted minimal gains. The mixed picture in Asia came after Wall Street stocks fell again Wednesday as investors shrugged off solid bank earnings and US data, which showed a 0.6 percent increase in retail sales in November. Analysts noted investor unease about possible US inverventions in Iran and Greenland, and Trump's threats to Federal Reserve autonomy, most recently in the Department of Justice's criminal probe of the central bank. Meanwhile, the US Supreme Court held off a widely-anticipated ruling Wednesday on the legality of Trump's sweeping tariffs.

NUUK, Jan 15, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - Greenland's residents expressed a mix of anxiety and relief after a meeting was held Wednesday in the White House between officials from the United States, Denmark and the island at the centre of President Donald Trump's focus. "It's very frightening because it's such a big thing," said Vera Stidsen, 51, a teacher in Nuuk, Greenland's capital. Red and white Greenlandic flags flew in shop windows, on apartment balconies, and on cars and buses, in a show of national unity during the talks. "Our hearts have felt very unsafe lately because of Trump's very direct, very aggressive way of talking about Greenland," she added. "They didn't manage to make an agreement but I have my hopes because I want to live in peace," he said.

You see, I come from a generation that was disciplined not by time-outs or a talk to discuss my feelings. One eyebrow raised and suddenly I was confessing sins that I hadn’t committed yet. Maybe, just maybe that’s why those kids grow up to be a little soft around the edges. A lot of kids today think they know everything because Google says its true. One feeling that I enjoyed growing up is one that most kids today will never know.

“How should we relate to the war?”Anbender, who, I’m sure, knew exactly what question he would be asked no matter who he called on, said, “Don’t worry about it!” Then he stood there, waiting in the stunned silence. But if you don’t have access, and most of us don’t, then don’t worry. What, though, does “Don’t worry about it” mean when we’re reading the news over breakfast in 2026 Carbondale, rather than being trained in a 1991 San Francisco ballroom? “Don’t worry about it” means using our energy effectively. “Don’t worry about it!”Mature Content is a monthly feature from Age-Friendly Carbondale.
