Indian security forces have killed two militants during an ongoing encounter in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, broadcaster NDTV reports, citing officials. Alert troops detected suspicious movement near the frontier and challenged the infiltrators, who responded with indiscriminate gunfire. It added, "Two terrorists have been neutralised by the security forces in the ongoing operation." The officials at the time had said that alert troops of the Army noticed suspicious movement on the LoC. Jammu and Kashmir has a 740 m long LoC, while the International Border is 240km long.

Deaf woman crushed under train in Lalmonirhat
A 54-year-old deaf woman was crushed under the wheels of a train at the Burimari rail route in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat district on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Janiron Begum, wife of Osman Goni of Singimari union, UNB reports. Quoting witnesses, Mahmudur Nabi, officer-in-charge of Hatibandha Police Station, said the woman was crushed under the wheels of the Parbatipur-bound local train from Burimari, leaving her dead on the spot. Police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue.

Locals capture crocodile after weeks of sightings in Manikganj
A crocodile that had been spotted in a distributary of the Padma River in Manikganj has finally been captured in a trap set by local residents. The reptile was caught around 8:30pm on Friday in Manikganj Sadar's Choukighata area, according to Md Shariful Islam, a forest officer from Harirampur Upazila. The locals who took part in the capture were identified by single names as Rahat, Antor, Rakib, Al Amin, Suruj, and Shahin. They said the crocodile had been sighted multiple times over the past month in the rivers near Charbongkhuri in Manikganj Sadar, and in the Boali, Ailkundhi, Khamarhati, and Tantrakhola areas of Harirampur Upazila. They will take the crocodile to Khulna, where it will receive necessary medical care before being released back into the wild,” said Shariful.

The accident occurred on Friday afternoon in front of the Nawhata BSCIC Industrial Area on the Sherpur–Sreebardi road, according to Nur Islam, member secretary of the Sherpur district NCP. The child, Ayra Moni, was the daughter of Engineer Md Likhan Mia, convenor of the district NCP unit. Locals rushed the child to Sherpur District Hospital and later to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, but she died on the way. The child was buried later that night at her family graveyard in Sherpur Sadar Upazila, said her father Likhan.

DU to host int'l confce on poets Nazrul, Iqbal Nov 9-10
The Department of Urdu at Dhaka University, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT), is set to organise the Fourth International Conference on "The Role of Poets Iqbal and Nazrul Islam in National Awakening" on November 9-10 on the university campus. Golam Rabbani, convener of the Conference Implementation Committee, Shared the details at a press briefing held at the office of the Dhaka University Journalists' Association (DUJA) on Friday (November 7). A total of 127 research papers will be presented across 18 sessions during the two-day conference. Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, vice-chancellor of Dhaka University, will attend as the chief guest, while Prof. Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, dean of the Faculty of Arts, will be present as special guest. The two-day event will take place across four venues, including the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban at Dhaka University.

Man stabbed to death in Chattogram
A 36-year-old man was stabbed to death by unidentified assailants at Maizpara in the Halishahar area of Chattogram city on Friday night. The victim was identified as Mohammad Akbar, a resident of Halishahar and father of three children, UNB reports. He was rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
