As the plane bumps along the tarmac toward the gate, I reflexively reach for my phone and turn it on, eager to text my friends and let them know I’ve arrived. I said goodbye to my eight-year-old daughter and six-year-old son, who are busy chafing against routines, bedtimes, and each other. “The proposed budget is realistic and pro-people during the internal and global economic crisis,” he told a press conference at AL’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office. Welcoming the budget on behalf of AL, the party’s general secretary said the proposed budget is compatible with the slogan of the AL’s election manifesto 'Smart Bangladesh: Development is visible, employment will increase this time'. Despite this, $22 billion has been spent from the forex to maintain the value of the money, as a result of the forex has decreased a lot, the AL general secretary said. He said that as the present electricity demand has been met, the allocation for electricity in the proposed budget has been reduced by Tk 4,503 crore. Whether exiled to the household gulag or set free in the fields, we wore blue jeans, never shorts. “Well,” my Dad said slowly while searching for a child-appropriate explanation, “in the summer, Buff wears only four pieces of clothing: overalls, two shoes, and a belt.”And what about underwear? “That’s where the ‘buff’ thing comes in,” he said with a firmness that made clear he was finished explaining the details of Buff ’s summer couture. Our Sunday church clothes weren’t jeans but standard issue Lutheran wear: baggy cotton trousers, oversized short-sleeved shirts, a too-long or too-short clip-on tie, and worn but well-polished shoes. Every Monday, though, all were back in our denim blue uniforms under the blue, summer southern Illinois sky.

NEW DELHI, June 9, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi isset to be sworn in Sunday for a third term after worse than expected electionresults left him reliant on coalition partners to govern. Modi's Hindu-nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ruled outright for thepast decade but failed to repeat its previous two landslide wins this timearound, defying analysts' expectations and exit polls. A meeting of the Congress leadership on Saturday voted unanimously torecommend Gandhi's election as India's official opposition leader, a postthat had been left vacant since 2014. Parliamentary regulations require the opposition leader to come from a partythat commands at least 10 percent of the lawmakers in the 543-seat lowerhouse. The post has been vacant for 10 years because two dismal election results forCongress -- once India's dominant party -- left it short of that threshold.

HUMBLE, Texas — David Puig of Spain had a 6-under 66 on Saturday to join a four-way share of the lead going into the final round of LIV Golf Houston that no longer includes Jon Rahm. All of them will be going for their first LIV Golf title. Ortiz won the Houston Open for his only PGA Tour victory, though that was on a different course than the Golf Club of Houston. The LIV Golf event won't help that cause because the Olympics are based on the world ranking and LIV events do not receive them. This golf course has teeth, and just because I've won doesn't change anything," Casey said.
