Madala (70) bust with R600k drugs!
The suspected drug mule was arrested on Thursday, 6 June during an operation conducted by the Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau team, in conjunction with Border Police based at CTIA. Police spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, said that the suspected drug mule, a foreign national, was traced to the airport, and his luggage was searched. 'Fearless' struggle icon Sobukwe remembered!
AS MZANSI commemorates the June 16 uprising, the City of Joburg decided to remember the late Robert Sobukwe for his role in the struggle against apartheid and colonialism in Mzansi and the continent. He said he felt feels like he wasn’t remembered enough for his role and contribution. He said many people learned about many dimensions of the late Sobukwe. "To young people who don't know about his history, Sobukwe was a man who never feared to bring change. He was the most feared man by the colonial system in this country," he said.

Rangpur road crash kills three
RANGPUR, June 08 (bdnews24.com): Three people have died and as many been injured after a head-on collision between a bus and an autorickshaw Gangachara upazila in Rangpur district. The accident occurred on Saturday afternoon in the Gunjipur area, said Shariful Islam, chief of Taraganj Highway Police Station. One of the deceased has been identified as 39-year-old Diba Rani Sarkar from Kishorganj upazila in Nilphamari district. The bus was headed from Nilphamari's Jaldhaka to Rangpur while the autorickshaw was headed from Pagla Pir to Kishorganj, police said, citing locals. The three bodies have been kept in the morgue at Rangpur Medical College Hospital, OC Shariful said.

'No need to worry' about government's bank borrowing: Finance Minister
Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali says that there is no reason to worry about the government’s dependence on bank loans to meet the budget deficit. At a post-budget press conference at the capital's Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Friday, he said, "Taking loans from banks is standard procedure. As such, it’s not that important, so you have no reason to worry about it.”The finance minister presented his budget proposal of Tk 7.97 trillion for the 2024-2025 fiscal year in the parliament on Thursday. To fund this spending, he plans to raise Tk 5.41 trillion from the government review, which will be a big challenge to implement. The finance minister plans to take loans from domestic and foreign sources to meet the deficit.

Power station catches fire!
This as a fire broke out in the switchgear room of an old, decommissioned power station after 9pm. "A City of Tshwane Electricity Department technician issued a safety work permit, and firefighters immediately commenced firefighting operations and exposure protection for an adjacent building of the old, decommissioned power station. The switchgear room contained four switch components with oil that was burning intensely," he said. Mabaso mentioned that the roof of the switchgear room collapsed, and parts of the walls also gave way due to the intense heat and an explosion that occurred within the burning switchgear room. The fire was successfully contained to the switchgear room and was subsequently extinguished.

Nepal hands over Anar murder suspect Siam to Kolkata police
Nepali authorities have handed over Siam, one of the suspects in the murder of Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar, to Kolkata police, according to Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Habibur Rahman. Siam had attempted to hide in Kathmandu after the murder of Anar in Kolkata but he was caught. The Kolkata CID has started questioning Siam and has arrested two more suspects in the murder, the DMP commissioner said.
