Commuters who enter any metro rail station in Dhaka by scanning their card but leave without making a trip will be charged a Tk 100 penalty, authorities say.The rule has been introduced by the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).Notices announcing the change have been posted at several stations across the capital. During a visit to the Karwanbazar Metro Rail Station, the notices could be seen displayed near the station's entrance. Prominent writers, journalists and academics have issued a joint statement demanding a fair investigation into the death of Dhaka Stream employee Swarnamoyee Biswas. Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to meet with leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and Jamaat-e-Islami as part of the ongoing political dialogue ahead of the upcoming 13th national election. The head of the interim government will hold talks with an NCP delegation at 5:15pm on Wednesday, followed by a meeting with a Jamaat delegation at 6pm, the Chief Advisor's Office (CAO) said in a statement. During Tuesday's meeting, Yunus assured the party that any transfer or posting within the administration prior to the elections would be directly supervised by him. A statement issued by the CAO said Yunus also discussed the government’s preparations for the upcoming national elections, scheduled for February 2026, with BNP leaders in detail. The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Bangladesh has ordered that 15 Army officers currently in military custody be sent to jail in connection with three cases of crimes against humanity, including enforced disappearances and killings, allegedly committed during the Awami League’s rule. In the three cases of crimes against humanity, there are a total of 28 accused, including 25 former and current Army officers. It had been earlier reported that 15 serving Army officers were taken into military custody. Power Generation at Barapukuria Fully Shutdown Staff Crosspondent, Dhaka (Sunday, October 20, 2025):Electricity generation at the Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant in Dinajpur has come to a complete Shutdown due to mechanical faults. Chief Engineer Abu Bakar Siddique told bdnews24.com that power generation at Unit 1 stopped on Sunday morning after a boiler pipe burst. Following the shutdown of Unit 3 earlier, around 50 megawatts of electricity from Unit 1 had been supplied to the national grid. Efforts are underway to restart both units, but it will take at least a week to resume generation. The three-unit power plant has a total capacity of 525 megawatts.

Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus says the interim government considers the demands of teachers and employees at MPO-listed private educational institutions to be justified. The statement said the government decided to raise the housing allowance for the MPO-listed teachers and employees to 7.5 percent of basic salary from Nov 1, and by another 7.5 percent from Jul 1, 2026. The chief advisor held a series of meetings with various advisors over the past few days regarding the demands of the MPO-listed teachers and employees of private educational institutions.
