The Paris 2024 Olympics are still nine months away, but The Hive already has reason to celebrate after being named creative agency for the Canadian Olympic Committee. The Hive will work with COC and CBC/Radio Canada for the Summer Games. While COC and the lead broadcast partner typically work on their own marketing and communications, the pair wanted to hire one agency to develop a singular campaign. For the past two Olympics, the work was handled by Camp Jefferson on the “Be Olympic” platform, which was introduced by Sid Lee in 2018. “I’m immensely proud of the work our team did to demonstrate how our unique model of collaboration will lead to impactful work for this assignment.”

The rate of West Antarctic Ice Sheet melt now appears unstoppable regardless of how much fossil fuel consumption is curtailed, said a study published Monday. “It looks like we’ve lost control of melting of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet,” lead author Kaitlin Naughten said in a statement. “The bright side is that by recognising this situation in advance, the world will have more time to adapt to the sea level rise that’s coming,” Naughten said. What we do now will help to slow the rate of sea level rise in the long term. The slower the sea level changes, the easier it will be for governments and society to adapt to, even if it can’t be stopped.”Comments, tips or story ideas?

October 23, 2023 —Two independent labour scholars concur with Rebeck’s position. “There are lots of situations where a union might figure they would get a better deal at the bargaining table rather than going to arbitration,” said David Camfield, an associate professor of labour studies at the University of Manitoba. Arbitration, added his labour studies colleague, professor Julie Guard, is “a less desirable approach to settling strikes than actually being reasonable.”Both Guard and Camfield said they see no issue with appointing a new MPI board to kick-start negotiations one week prior to the potential start of arbitration.

A new docuseries dedicated to unearthing the little-told stories of Black Canadian experiences is as much about the present as it is about relearning the past, says its showrunner. “Black Life: Untold Stories” traces 400 years of contributions that helped shape the nation and underpin ongoing efforts toward racial justice, says executive producer Leslie Norville. Each instalment is dedicated to one overarching topic including Black empowerment, hip-hop, immigration, art and literature, sports, policing and settlements. Disability advocates in Nova Scotia are praising the efforts of a dental clinic in Dartmouth after it installed a lift that will make visits accessible for people with mobility issues. (CBC)VanGorder said he hopes people with disabilities hear about this new lift and access dental care at the centre. Vicky Levack, spokesperson for the Disability Rights Association of Nova Scotia, said she has never seen a dental office that is fully accessible in the province. The lobby group representing private broadcasters such as Bell and Rogers isn’t looking to find a compromise position. Google has argued that broadcasters should be excluded altogether and that the law should focus solely on the struggling newspaper sector. Second, the CAB wants to massively increase the platform revenues that are calculated as part of the minimum of 4% of search or social media revenues. The hubris in the money grab by the broadcasters is remarkable and would significantly increase the likelihood of blocked links. If that happens, no platform will be subject to the law and the CAB’s members will receive a larger portion of nothing.

But the statement will do little to quell the growing unease in Canada about Israel’s military response to Hamas’ deadly October 7 attack. Now, however, Israel’s bombs and missiles have killed more children in Gaza than all of the people Hamas murdered on October 7. Many, especially in the US, still unequivocally support Israel’s right to defend itself. “The targeted killing of more than 1400 innocent civilians, including children and elderly, and the gruesome images of what was done to them, are horrifying. Most Canadians hope discussion of this crisis can be a search for solutions, not an opportunity for partisan gains.

Liberal MP Ryan Turnbull posted on social media. Video puts Poilievre 'on the map': DeLoreyFred DeLorey, who served as the national campaign manager for the Conservative Party of Canada in 2021, said the unapologetic video put Poilievre on the map with conservatives. It's never a good thing for the Conservative Party of Canada to be associated with Fox News, he said. This is following a small-c conservative playbook, which is to use social media to, in many ways, avoid difficult media questions, he said. They're still the ones who are using social media to get this out there.

I was born in the year 2000 and remember learning how to write cursive very early in my education, around grade one. After that point, cursive writing was never enforced in my schooling ever again. Today, cursive writing has been added to the Ontario school curriculum again as a mandatory subject to teach from grades 3-8. Nonetheless, as someone who will be teaching cursive in the classroom, I know it is time for me to learn how to write and read in cursive for my career. As a student on a budget, I will be purchasing this cursive writing practice book for adults (under 10 dollars!)
