A New Brunswick biochemist says fish and humans have something in common — and it could change how we look at promoting heart health. He discovered this while studying cuttlefish in Portugal and found they have a lot of taurine in their bloodstreams and hearts. MacCormack manipulates their diet and monitors their heart rate with the help of swim tunnel respirometers. MacCormack and his team are currently using swim tunnel respirometers to understand the impact that a change in diet can have on fish heart health. Alberta orders review after man dies waiting in Edmonton emergency department
The Alberta government has ordered a review after a 44-year-old man died while waiting in an emergency department in Edmonton earlier this week. Varindar Bhullar, a family friend, said in a phone interview that initial checkups didn't show anything abnormal but his blood pressure kept climbing. Prashanth Sreekumar died from an alleged cardiac arrest soon after triage. Bhullar recalled Prashanth Sreekumar as a good friend, a person who loved his family and lived an active life, often playing cricket. Acute Care Alberta, a new provincial health agency, said it will participate in the review and implement any recommendations.

We are a story of resilience, and I think Jewish people can take great pride in that.

SCEPTRES SIGN HANNA BASKIN TO 10-DAY CONTRACT

I go way back with East Nashville troubadour Todd Snider, who died Nov. 14. One of my fondest memories comes from the 1990s, when his band, the Nervous Wrecks, were doing some dates with my band, the Rugburns. We played wiffle ball inside a club in Indianapolis in the middle of the day. Russia delivers 'massive strike' on Kyiv ahead of Zelenskyy-Trump peace talks in Florida
The Russian Defence Ministry said Saturday that it carried out a "massive strike" overnight. The ministry said the strike came in response to Ukraine's attacks on "civilian objects" in Russia. "Today Russia demonstrated how it responds to peace talks between Ukraine and the United States on ending Russia's war against Ukraine," Zelenskyy said to reporters via audio note while travelling. The main target was energy and civilian infrastructure in Kyiv, Zelenskyy said, adding that in some districts of the region, there is no electricity or heating because of the attacks. Rubble surrounds a building hit in the Russian strike in Kyiv on Saturday as rescue workers attend to the devastation.

Freezing rain expected in Montreal
The Greater Montreal area could see a prolonged period of freezing rain on Monday, with potentially hazardous conditions developing across much of southern Quebec. Freezing rain — possibly mixed with ice pellets — may begin overnight Sunday and continue through the end of the day Monday, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). “This freezing rain and ice pellet event is associated with the passage of an intense low-pressure system through the Great Lakes region,” ECCC said in its warning on Friday, noting that there is still uncertainty surrounding both the duration of the event and the amount of ice expected to accumulate. In addition to Greater Montreal, areas at risk include Témiscamingue, Outaouais, the Laurentides, Lanaudière, Montérégie, and the southern Eastern Townships. ECCC is urging residents to reconsider non-essential travel during this period, as ice buildup could make road conditions dangerous.
