Vatican’s offer to mediate Ukraine crisis welcome: Kremlin - Daily News Egypt
The Kremlin welcomed on Monday the Vatican’s announcement of mediation to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian War. On Friday, Pope Francis announced that the Vatican is ready to do anything possible to mediate and end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine in statements to the Italian newspaper La Stampa, calling on all parties to not give up. “Everyone must commit to disarming hearts, starting with their own, and then defusing and disarming violence,” the pope said. This was not the only time that the pope called for mediation to resolve the crisis between Russia and Ukraine. Previously, he called for mediation in June and February, expressing his readiness every time to travel to Ukraine if needed.

There will be more than one billion content creators by 2027: Phlog founder - Daily News Egypt
Founder and Managing Director of Grass Roots LTD and Phlog, Khaled Taher, has expected that the number of content creators will exceed one billion by 2027. It comes during the “New Media and Latest Forms of Entertainment” session on the third day of the first-ever Middle East 30 Under 30 Summit in El Gouna, Egypt on Saturday. The session was moderated by Forbes Middle East Digital Editorial Director, Loris Constantine, and included public figure and presenter Aline Azour Al-Murr, and broadcaster and Insider reporter Elie Nakhle. Al-Murr talked about her TV programme “All Access”, and how she was able to combine the requirements of television viewers and users of social networking sites, and says in this: “In our program, we do not seek to present topics that are of interest to current generations, but we always try to publish them on our platforms on social networking sites in different formats suitable for each platform.” Al-Murr added: “As a mother of two children, this always pushes me to present positive and useful topics to my fans, and I do not care about the number of my followers as much as I am interested in good and real interaction.”Taher said: “The nature of advertisements on social networking sites is different. EgyptAlum selects Premier Securities Brokerage to conduct fair value study of company’s shares
Egypt - Informed sources told Daily News Egypt (DNE) that Egypt Aluminium has chosen Premier Securities Brokerage to determine the fair value of the company’s shares before the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s acquisition of a 20-25% stake in the expected capital increase. The sources added that the choice came after a comparison between several offers from various companies, pointing out that the study may take about a month. The Saudi Sovereign Fund is awaiting the approval of the Egyptian Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) to increase the capital of Egypt Aluminium for subscription by about 65%. The company revealed earlier that it is currently studying a capital increase through a “strategic investor” to help it finance development operations and maintain its current production capacity of 320,000 tonnes annually. The company owned by the Holding Company for Metal Industries is eyeing a $320m overhaul and has hired engineering giant Bechtel to conduct a feasibility study for the development.

Egypt to launch polio vaccination campaign starting Dec. 11: Health minister
CAIRO – 28 November 2022: Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar announced on Monday that a national campaign to vaccinate children against polio for free across the country will run from December 11 to December 14. The campaign aims to vaccinate all children — Egyptian and foreign — from one day to five year old living in the country, he added. In 2006, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Egypt free of polio, said the minister, noting that the last case of polio recorded in Egypt was in 2004. For his part, Head of the Preventive Medicine Sector Amr Kandil noted that the campaign will cover all Egyptian governorates through fixed clinics and mobile teams on streets and near churches, mosques, and metro stations. Comprising 90,000 medical personnel, the campaign will also go door to door in all governorates, villages, and remote areas, he added.

Egypt Awqaf Ministry to Inaugurate 46 New Mosques on Friday
TEHRAN (IQNA) – Egypt’s Awqaf ministry said 46 new mosques that are dispersed across 11 governorates will be inaugurated next week. In a press release Sunday, the ministry said the inauguration of the mosques will be held on Friday, December 2. It pointed out that by the upcoming inauguration, the number of mosques that have been built/renovated since July 1 would be 351. Egypt’s authorities in April started maintenance and renovation works at the historical and sacred Al Sayeda Zainab Mosque. The renovation works also includes the buildings around it and the whole neighborhood, not just the mosque itself.

One third of Egyptian women are victims of domestic violence: Ministry of Social Solidarity
CAIRO – 27 November 2022: The Ministry of Social Solidarity released Sunday an infograph showcasing the different types of violence women aged between 15 and 49 and have been married at some point in their life went through at the hand of their husbands. The 2021 figures showed that 25 percent of the women in the aforementioned category were subject to physical violence, 22 percent endured psychological violence, and six percent were victims of sexual violence. As for domestic violence against children, it dropped from 93 percent in 2014, and 81 percent in 2021. The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) indicated Thursday that the percentage of females aged between 0 and 19 who have been subject to FGM fell by seven percent between 2014 and 2021 to become 14.2 percent. As for females who are in the same age group and are at the risk of falling victim to the crime, their percentage is 27 percent compared to 56.3 percent in 2014.

Egyptian fighter jet crashes, crew survives
CAIRO – 27 November 2022: Spokesperson of the Egyptian Armed Forces Gharib Abdel Hafez announced that a fighter jet crashed during training on Sunday because of a technical error, and that the pilot and co-pilot survived. The cause of the crashes was also technical problems that were not detailed, and they all happened during training. Egypt signed a contract with the French Dassault Aviation company to purchase 30 Rafale fighter jets, announced the Egyptian Armed Forces in a statement in May 2021. The 24 Rafale aircrafts were part of a deal valued at 5.3 billion euros ($5.9 billion). Reuters reported that the new deal is worth 3.75 billion euro ($4.5 billion).

Egypt celebrates International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women - Daily News Egypt
Ahmed Abu Zeid — Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — said on Saturday that Egypt has achieved an unprecedented leap in the protection and promotion of women’s rights. The day coincides with the ‘Unite to End Violence Against Women (UNITE)’ campaign — a 16-day initiative that runs from 25 November to 10 December, which is Human Rights Day. The UN says that an increase in violence against women is observed due to intersecting crises, climate change, global conflicts, economic instability. According to the UN, 45% of women reported that they or other women they know have been exposed to some form of violence. Additionally, violence against women continues to be a barrier to achieving equality, development, and peace, as well as the fulfilment of the human rights of women and girls.

Saudi ACWA Power aims to invest $10bln in Egypt: CEO
Sharm El-Sheikh – Egypt has pushed strongly for expanding renewable energy production to reduce greenhouse gases, improve air quality, and enhance opportunities for a gradual transition towards reliance on sustainable energy. Paddy Padmanathan, Vice Chairperson and CEO of ACWA Power, expects the group to inject up to $10bn worth of investments in Egypt by 2026. He stressed the company’s desire to push forward the cooperation processes with the energy sector in Egypt to promote the transition towards sustainable and clean energy and reduce emissions. It will also produce about 650 tonnes of green hydrogen per day and 1.2 million tonnes of green ammonia annually, with investments exceeding $6bn. He added that all of these projects have created a strong experience that qualifies it to develop many projects in this sector, especially the green hydrogen sector in Egypt.

EEP signs agreement for the development of international school in North Coast with Soma Bay - Daily News Egypt
The Egypt Education Platform (EEP) owned by EFG Hermes and Egypt’s Sovereign Fund signed a new management agreement for the development of a new international school in the coastal city of Somabay, which is located on the Red Sea. Sources told Daily news Egypt the new school will be owned by Abo Soma Development and will be able to host 300 students when fully operational, adding that the new school is targeted to start operations in September 2024. Furthermore, the platform is currently close to finalising a new investment in the education content development space, which is expected to close in the fourth quarter (4Q) of 2022. The EEP also started the new academic year across eight operating schools, with all schools exceeding their targeted enrolment numbers for the 2022/23 academic year. Moreover, the platform is exploring potential growth opportunities in the market through future acquisitions or development of new schools.

Ministry works out tight plan to control losses due to power thefts
CAIRO - 26 November 2022: The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy is witnessing an unprecedented move towards the crisis of loss in the national electricity grid, which causes huge financial losses incurred by the ministry and its subsidiaries. The Ministry of Electricity worked out a tight plan in cooperation with the Electricity Police to eliminate this crisis by increasing the penalty imposed on power thefts. Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, revealed that the ministry is currently studying to increase the penalty for electric current thefts as part of its plan to reduce loss rates in the national grid as a result of the huge financial losses that the sector is exposed to. Shaker added that converting the national electricity network into a smart network is the radical solution to eliminate the loss rates in the national network, pointing out that the expansion of the installation of prepaid meters and smart meters and the installation of smart transformers will be the solution to ending Electricity theft crisis in Egypt. Shaker stressed that the next few days will witness intensive campaigns to control violators and electricity thieves throughout the Republic.

Egypt calls for reducing antimicrobials in agrifood system by up to 59% by 2030
CAIRO – 26 November 2022: Egypt’s Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar has stressed the need to reduce the total amount of antimicrobials used in the agricultural food system by 39-59 percent from the current level by 2030. During his participation, Abdel Ghaffar stressed Egypt’s support to the efforts aiming at combating antimicrobials in a way that comes in line with the “One Health” strategy. Despite the fact that antimicrobial, including antibiotics, have protected human beings against harmful microorganisms for decades, misuse and overuse of antimicrobials have caused drug-resistant pathogens to develop. The minister also affirmed the Egyptian state's support for Saudi Arabia’s request to host the fourth ministerial conference on antimicrobial resistance in Riyadh next year. According to Omani reports, the manifesto has stressed on the three global targets regarding antimicrobials, including the need to reduce the antimicrobials used in agricultural food systems by 30-50 percent by 2030.
