Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), the continent’s leading infrastructure solutions provider, is leading commercial funding for a €381.5 million package to finance engineering, procurement and construction of 186 bridges and crucially needed enhancements to Angola’s road network. AFC, acting as mandated lead arranger for the commercial tranche, has committed to invest €85 million, combining with export credit agency financing from the Export-Import Bank of the U.S. and the U.S. The signing took place at this week’s US-Africa Business Summit in Dallas, Texas, organized by the Corporate Council on Africa. AFC’s investment in the new roads project showcases the Lobito Corridor consortium partnering beyond rail to support rural transport connectivity that will serve to link communities and the larger regional corridor. The Republic of Angola has been a shareholder and member state of AFC since 2022.

REUTERS/Philippe WojazerPARIS (Reuters) - It may take several days to complete the first readings of the black boxes recovered from the Ethiopian Airlines jet that crashed after take-off, a spokesman for the French air accident investigation agency conducting the analysis said on Thursday. The BEA spokesman said he did not know what condition the black boxes were in. Much will depend on how damaged the black boxes are. The Boeing 737 MAX 8 careered into the ground shortly after taking off from Addis Ababa, breaking up into small fragments and carving a deep crater.

(ABC 6 News) — United Way of Olmsted County awarded 22 students for community service work on Thursday night. The students received the award for volunteering for 100 hours or more, and one John Marshall high school freshman said she achieved one of her goals by lettering in community service. “It’s a sense of gratitude that I’m able to help people but I’m also helping myself,” Arsiema Feliche, letter recipient and John Marshall high school freshman, said. While 21 other students from around the county were also awarded, Feliche was the only John Marshall student being celebrated.

Exports are projected to reach US$1.75 billion by the end of the current fiscal yearIn a recent statement, the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA) said that coffee exports generated a revenue of US$835.2 million for the country in the first nine months of the current fiscal year, which began on 8 July 2023. Key international markets for Ethiopian coffee products include Saudi Arabia, South Korea, the United States, Germany, Japan, and China. This success highlights the significant growth of Ethiopia's coffee industry, which is attributed to comprehensive reforms in the sector. Notably, in the previous fiscal year, Ethiopia earned more than US$1.3 billion from coffee exports and this amount is projected to reach US$1.75 billion by the end of the current fiscal year. Countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Sudan and China, previously absent from the list, are now actively participating in Ethiopian coffee trade.
