In the Dasenech district of the Somali region, a staggering 65% of the land area has succumbed to flooding, intensifying the challenges faced by response teams. This notice was issued by the joint venture (JV) company KMP, in which members of the Abyssinian group hold a 51% interest, and State-owned Oromia Share Mining Company holds 49%. Through the efforts and investment of the Abyssinian group, an inferred resource of 88-million tonnes, grading 0.78% lithium oxide, and other exploration targets, have been identified. The Abyssinian group’s investments in the Kenticha project are protected by the Netherlands-Ethiopia Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT). Abyssinian says it remains committed to the Kenticha project and aims to achieve an amicable resolution, such that the Abyssinian group may return to Kenticha and resume pre-production works. The Abyssinian group was ordered to leave the Kenticha site on October 18.

The nationwide suspension of WFP food distribution earlier this year was a result of reports of widespread diversion of aid. The WFP suspended nationwide food aid in June due to reports of diversions within the Tigray region. However, the WFP reinstated food assistance to almost 900,000 refugees in camps across five Ethiopian regions last month after implementing reforms to refugee aid programs. The reformed model aims to restore principled aid delivery and humanitarian access for those dependent on food assistance.

The African Development Bank has filed a formal complaint with the Ethiopian government after two of its staff members were arrested in Addis Ababa last month. In a statement issued on Thursday, the Abidjan-based institution said they were “unlawfully arrested, physically assaulted, and detained for many hours by elements of the security forces without any official explanation”. Describing it as a “very serious diplomatic incident”, the bank went on to say that it was, however, pleased that Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed acted immediately when he learned what had happened. Ethiopian Airlines has penned a groundbreaking agreement with aerospace giant Boeing (NYSE: ), marking the largest aircraft purchase in Africa's history. The carrier, in a strategic expansion under its Vision 2035 strategy, signed a contract for up to 67 jets during the Dubai Airshow. Lema Yadecha, Chief Commercial Officer of Ethiopian Airlines Group, confirmed that this move aligns seamlessly with their ambitious Vision 2035 strategy. Beyond the new aircraft, Ethiopian Airlines will also embark on cabin modification services for its existing fleet of 787 Dreamliners. When it comes to music services in Africa, the bigger established countries like South Africa and Nigeria tend to hog the headlines. One example today is from Ethiopia, where local streaming service Sewasew Media has bagged a big international partner: Universal Music Group. The deal will see Sewasew license and market UMG’s international catalogue in Ethiopia, as well as music from its African subsidiaries Def Jam Africa, Motown Gospel Africa and Republic Records Africa. “This partnership is a testament to Ethiopia’s growing importance in the global music industry, and we are confident that it will be a success for both companies,” said Sewasew MD Abraham F. in a statement. It had been suspended in December 2021 after proposals were sought that September. "The licence process has been terminated. We had not launched a request for bids yet, because we wanted to assess market potential and readiness," Hinjat Shamil , the senior adviser at the ministry overseeing the bidding process, told Reuters.
