The Ethiopian government failed to attract any bidders for its third telecoms licence according to sources speaking to Bloomberg, as investors are put off by the current political instability in the country. A United Nations panel reported Ethiopia is at a high risk of seeing more war atrocities as tensions boil. Ethiopia announced plans to auction a third telecoms licence in July to spur competition in the telecoms sector. Ethiopia opened its doors to international companies and accepted Safaricom Ethiopia to rival state-owned Ethio Telecom in 2021. Demera, an Ethiopian restaurant in Uptown, is entering the third year of raising money to aid the humanitarian crisis in Tigray, Ethiopia. Since 2007, chef Tigist Reda has been creating beautiful spreads of Ethiopian food at Demera; bringing people together over heaping platters of meat and veggie stews, served atop freshly made injera bread. Reda was born and raised in Ethiopia, and her restaurant feels like an extension of that, bringing a bit of her hometown to Chicago. I've got to help," Stegner said. Reda is using her voice and her kitchen and her friends to help in the best way they know how.

Deliveries of food aid from the United States to Ethiopia will resume throughout the country, the US Development Agency (USAID) announced on Tuesday, following the conclusion of an agreement to monitor the distribution of aid. "These far-reaching and significant reforms will profoundly change the food aid system in Ethiopia and ensure that aid reaches those suffering from acute food insecurity," USAID spokeswoman Jessica Jennings said in a statement. The US agency had already announced in early October a limited resumption of food aid deliveries to meet the needs of thousands of refugees in Africa's second most populous country. Around 17% of Ethiopia's 120 million inhabitants depend on international food aid. But last June, the UN and the United States suspended the distribution of food aid throughout the country because of "widespread and coordinated" misappropriation.

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AP) — The lead U.S. development agency plans to restart food aid deliveries for millions of people across Ethiopia in December, five months after it took the extraordinary step of halting its nationwide program over a massive corruption scheme by local officials. About one-sixth of Ethiopians received food aid before discovery of the food theft early this year. USAID and the U.N.’s World Food Program suspended food aid to Ethiopia’s Tigray region in mid-March after uncovering the colossal scheme. The agency previously sought to remove Ethiopian government officials from having any role in aid processes to stem corruption. The WFP restarted aid to refugees in Ethiopia in October but is yet to resume food aid nationwide.
