Grant, who was previously a journalist in Brussels, says the UK side are being extremely cautious when it comes to Europe. “Part of that is Starmer is naturally a cautious person, that’s the way he’s made,” he says. A bigger factor in the trepidation is the fact the UK government doesn’t know exactly what it wants yet, he says. “There will be a reset – whether it is minor or whether it is more ambitious is an open question.”An element of spin will be required from the UK government to sell progress back home. “I think Labour can get away with a deal on youth mobility, if it is called ‘youth exchanges’ rather than mobility,” Grant says.

Seán McCarthaighA doctor has been found guilty of professional misconduct over his failure to notify the Medical Council that he had been refused registration by its UK counterpart due to his repeated failure to pass an exam to test his medical competence. A medical inquiry found a series of allegations proven against non-consultant hospital doctor, Mohamed Akasha, in relation to false declarations he made to the Medical Council in both 2019 and 2020 in annual registration renewal forms. He said the fitness-to-practise committee had no doubt that Dr Akasha had knowingly and deliberately misled the Medical Council. Mr Quirke said the inquiry was satisfied that Dr Akasha had twice withheld relevant information knowingly and deliberately from the Medical Council which represented professional misconduct. Dr Akasha, who is based in Cavan, was informed that the findings and the recommended sanction, which was not made public, would be forwarded to the Medical Council for determination.

Hutchison said the teaser trailer will be used to pitch the feature to film production companies and potential funders, but there were some practical difficulties to consider. "Writer and actor strikes in the US ground film production globally to a halt in many ways. Filming locations are likely to include the Scottish Highlands, but footage captured for the teaser trailer was shot in Balloch Country Park in West Dunbartonshire. The trailer features a scientist fleeing a laboratory attack mixed with some fairly graphic clips of his colleagues meeting their demise. The trailer was shot by Glasgow-based filmmaker Alessio Avezzano, who is known for films including Islelanders, Swedish for Hello and Zei Wei.

It’s rather good at it, tooIs Rivals (Disney+ from October 18) the silliest show on television? Job done, Champagne popped, Alex Hassell’s Rupert Campbell-Black finally emerges from the loo with a cheeky grin on his face. But hey, with every good scheme comes an unfortunate complication, and it looks like Campbell-Black has his eye on Taggie. Funny, salty and relentlessly camp, Rivals adopts a more-is-more approach to television storytelling, which means there is always something happening. Alex Hassell as Rupert Campbell-Black.

The film swells with the best of British and Irish talent – notably Saoirse Ronan as a distraught mother – and does good work investigating neglected corners of the wartime legend. But, for the most part, Blitz, which has its first screening at a gala premiere at London Film Festival today, turns out to be a disappointingly conventional affair. [ Saoirse Ronan: ‘Going out and getting wrecked ... I’m careful about when and where I do that’Opens in new window ]There is a sense of McQueen working through a checklist. It remains perfectly possible that, come January, she will receive a best-supporting-actress nomination for Blitz to set beside an expected best-actress nod for The Outrun. Blitz is due to open in cinemas on Friday, November 1st, and stream on Apple TV+ from Friday, November 22nd

Here, the PA news agency takes a look at some of the talking points surrounding the game. Wolves defender Matt Doherty has been left out of the Republic of Ireland squad for this month’s double-header (Niall Carson/PA)Whether by design or necessity, there is a different look about the Ireland squad this month. Left-sided Celtic centre-back Liam Scales will hope his form – a 7-1 Champions League defeat at Borussia Dortmund apart – will aid his cause. Two of those have come from Celtic frontman Adam Idah and the other from a man currently playing his football in the Netherlands. However, they can boast home and away victories over Ireland during the 2020-21 Nations League campaign with Fredrik Jensen scoring the only goal in both games.
