They seek him here: Taoiseach Micheál Martin at the G20 summit in Johannesburg on Sunday. It was 2pm on a Tuesday afternoon and he should have been in the Dáil for Leaders’ Questions. Not only that, but he got a bouncy Brazilian blow-dry for his big moment taking Leaders’ Questions, so his hair looked lovely. It’s Leaders’ Questions, not Aspiring Leaders’ Questions — Sinn Féin’s Conor D McGuinness“Nice surprise to see you today,” she added in the welcoming tones of someone opening the back door to find the cat has left a surprise on the doorstep. “It’s Leaders’ Questions, not Aspiring Leaders’ Questions.”Nobody is saying that a taoiseach can’t travel abroad on State business, explained the Labour leader.

“I think the game on Saturday was a standalone,” Sexton said, speaking at the announcement of the renamed Laya Arena at the RDS. This half-time was just trying to come up with a plan with 12 men, trying to come up with plays with 12 men. Normally a preset solution is at hand with tried-and-trusted tactical switches and tweaks, but playing a Test match with 12 players was in nobody’s playbook. “It was more coming up with a plan for kick-off,” Sexton said of the start of the second half. That is the minimum you want to see from any Irish team and they produced it in spades,” Sexton said.

Edward Bradbury submits his solicitor told the District Court that in the absence of a formal court order, he would not be paying the fine. A solicitor who was ordered to pay €500 to the District Court “poor box” when he was unable to attend a hearing has been granted permission to challenge the fine, arguing the judge did not have jurisdiction to impose such a penalty. Mr Bradbury submits his solicitor told the District Court that in the absence of a formal court order, he would not be paying the fine and would take no further action should the matter rest there. He said he told the District Court that, if an order was issued for the €500, judicial review proceedings would be commenced from the date of issue. On August 13th, Mr Bradbury’s solicitor received the order compelling him to pay.

Photograph: Sergio Lima/AFP via GettyBrazil’s former president, Jair Bolsonaro, has been ordered to start serving his 27-year sentence in a 12 sq m bedroom in a police base in the capital, Brasília, after his conviction for plotting a coup. On Tuesday, the supreme court justice Alexandre de Moraes ruled that Bolsonaro should start serving his sentence after the case formally ended following a period for appeals. Bolsonaro’s former defence minister, general Walter Braga Netto, who received a 26-year sentence, was already in custody having been arrested last December. The former spy chief Alexandre Ramagem received a 16-year sentence, but recently fled to the US to avoid jail. Experts say the former president’s influence has waned dramatically in recent months, particularly after Bolsonaro was arrested for tampering with his ankle tag.

Fame in the music industry can be a ticket to riches, but at a cost of a shorter lifespan. Photograph: GettySingers who are famous tend to die about four years earlier than ones who are less well known, a study has suggested. The level of risk associated with achieving fame is comparable to that of casual smoking, the study’s authors said in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. Their study looked at the lives and deaths of 628 singers born between 1910 and 1975. Most, 83.5 per cent, were men; 61 per cent were from the United States; and 77 per cent were white.

Gueye did not get an opportunity to speak to Moyes or his team-mates at half-time. The 36-year-old could still be disciplined by Everton despite Moyes’s admission that he “likes my players fighting each other”. US secretary of state Marco Rubio downplayed the US peace plan as 'a list of potential ideas'. Photograph: Fabrice COFFRINI/AFP via Getty ImagesLast week, US president Donald Trump set a hard deadline for Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy to agree to the details of a 28-point draft peace deal with Russia. If he refused, Trump said, the Ukrainian leader would be left “to fight his little heart out”. The 28-point plan, which was widely criticised as a series of one-sided concessions to Russian president Vladimir Putin, had been shrunk to closer to 20 points. “It is not our peace plan.”Rounds said Rubio had “made it clear that it was an opportunity to have received” the plan.

The “phenomenon” of ghost buses on certain routes is “simply not acceptable”, the Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien has told the Dáil. Mr O’Brien said a “great frustration” of his was “unreliability” in public transport. That can happen, people will understand now and again if this happens but the increased prevalence [of ghost buses] on certain routes is of grave concern,” he said. Mr Ó Cearúil said there were “persistent cancellations and ghost buses and severe overcrowding” on the C4 route, which travels between Maynooth and Ringsend. Mr O’Brien said he would speak directly with the National Transport Authority and Transport Infrastructure Ireland on the TD’s behalf and put forward his suggestions.
