Following the confirmation of bluetongue in Ireland, China has suspended all beef imports. The General Administration of Customs China (GACC) was informed of the outbreak and subsequently decided to suspend acceptance of Irish beef exported from Ireland with effect from January 27. Under the protocol governing the beef trade between Ireland and China, the Irish Government is required to notify the authorities in China of an outbreak of certain notifiable diseases, including bluetongue. Across the subsequent herds, two herds have one infected animal, and the remaining herd has two infected cattle. “Early detection has been a crucial part of our strategy against the bluetongue virus and the rapid response reflects my department’s commitment to that,” Mr Heydon said.

Mr Doyle says he did not share the video to social media, but sent it to a number of his friends in a WhatsApp message. The next day however, the operator of Dublin Airport, DAA, which was a notice party in the case, informed him his airport identification card had been suspended. The Garda Commissioner is ultimately responsible for undertaking security checks of Dublin Airport employees and had refused to renew his card. However, he said the decision to deny Mr Doyle security clearance because of an unacceptable security threat to the State has not been set aside. “That appeal may or may not uphold the decision to remove Mr Doyle’s security clearance”, he said.

From minute four to the final whistle, this went exactly how Arne Slot would have dreamt it when his head hit the pillow the previous night. Liverpool secured their safe passage to the last-16 of the Champions League without breaking a sweat, thrashing Qarabag 6-0. It ended up a tough night for the Azerbaijanis as the Premier League champions ran riot with Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Co also scoring and finding much-needed confidence. ‘It's only two years ago that we were playing Europa League and we went out in the quarter-finals against Atalanta,’ said Slot. We will definitely be hungry for more this season as well.’Slot had opined this week that being knocked out of the Champions League last March to Paris Saint-Germain aided his team’s Premier League title tilt.

Export taxesIf, however, the EU eschewed import tariffs in favour of export taxes, the US may take a bigger hit. A good example is pharmaceutical products, where the EU runs a large trade surplus with the US. But the transatlantic services trade is almost as large as trade in goods — both a bit above $800 billion annually. European investors hold about $6 trillion of this debt — about $3 trillion in US Treasuries and another $3 trillion in Treasury-backed US housing-agency debt. But the notion that European investors could dump their US Treasury holdings, thereby bringing down the market and driving up interest rates, is unrealistic.

He told Betway: "No I don't [see him making it into to the squad], if truth be known. "I will always love the club, I will always love the people of the club, I will always love the fans and the supporters.
