Bitcoin dropped below $90,000, deepening a month-long slide that has erased the cryptocurrency’s gains for 2025. Photograph: Romain Costaseca / Hans Lucas via AFP via Getty ImagesBitcoin dropped below $90,000 (€77,454), deepening a month-long slide that has erased the cryptocurrency’s gains for 2025 and rocked sentiment across the digital-asset world. The largest crypto token fell as much as 2.8 per cent on Tuesday, extending its decline from a record of more than $126,000 set in early October. Options traders are betting on deeper losses, with demand for downside protection at the $85,000 and $80,000 strikes dominating recent flows. The crypto market has struggled to find support after an early-October sell-off triggered more than $19 billion in liquidations and wiped out over $1 trillion in token market value.

Ms Bacik’s is just the latest voice to express disquiet at the manner in which the Occupied Territories Bill seems to have disappeared silently as a priority item from the Government’s legislative agenda. While the Government here continues to obfuscate and slow down the progression of the Occupied Territories Bill, other EU states have moved forward. Thanks to his charm, Dr Borumborad had no trouble getting a grant from parliament to get his Turkish baths up and running. They should have learned from their predecessors who got embroiled with Dr Achmet Borumborad and his Turkish baths. But let’s rewind a little to the arrival of Dr Borumborad in Ireland. In fact, the wine flowed so much that Dr Borumborad had to go to his cellar for another dozen bottles. Dr Borumborad and his servants were mystified to find the guests gone when they returned from the cellar laden with wine.

US president Donald Trump will head a so-called board of peace that will supervise an international stabilisation force in Gaza. It puts Donald Trump in supreme control of Gaza, perhaps with Tony Blair as his immediate subordinate in a “board of peace”, which will oversee multinational peacekeeping troops, a committee of Palestinian technocrats and a local police force, for a period of two years. The board will report to the security council but will not be subordinate to the UN, or subject to past UN resolutions. It will supervise an international stabilisation force (ISF), whose membership is also undetermined, but which the US wants to deploy by January. The countries who the US has approached – including Egypt, Indonesia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates – are tentative.

Artificial intelligence is being used by many applicants to help frame their job applications and CVs. Photograph: iStockLike academia, it seems, recruitment finds itself in something of a nuclear arms race between its two main constituent groups. Job applicants are increasingly using AI to more easily tailor job applications and dramatically ramp up the number of posts that they apply for. Most of them, meanwhile, are using AI to help with the process and most employers are using it to spot the applicants who have used it. Chait says more human engagement is required in the hiring process so people can actually find out about each other.

Ambassadors and representatives to the UN vote during the Security Council meeting at the UN Headquarters in New York City on Monday. Photograph: Angela Weiss/AFP via GettyThe United Nations Security Council on Monday voted to adopt a US-drafted resolution endorsing president Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza and authorising an international stabilisation force for the Palestinian enclave. Russia, which holds a veto on the Security Council, earlier signalled potential opposition to the resolution but abstained from the vote, allowing the resolution to pass. The Palestinian Authority issued a statement welcoming the resolution, and said it is ready to take part in its implementation. The resolution has proven controversial in Israel because it references a future possibility of statehood for the Palestinians.

Sustainable fashion expert Moya Doogan wearing her favourite wool jumperBuy well“If you buy wool well, you buy once,” Doogan says. “While initially more expensive, a good woollen geansaí will last for life, whereas an acrylic jumper might last a couple of washes before losing its shape and shine. “Not only will real wool garments last generations if cared for correctly, but they can also biodegrade without harming the environment if they end up in landfill. When it comes time for washing, “wool needs a low heat and a very gentle spin cycle,” she advises. If you’re handy with a needle, Doogan recommends watching YouTube videos to learn how to darn your own garments.

Tánaiste Simon Harris said he was shocked by the speed of the criticism he got for 'saying very basic things' about immigration. Photograph: Brian Lawless/PA WireTánaiste Simon Harris has rounded on critics of his comments on immigration, accusing them of “lazy politics” and “pathetic” attacks. Earlier this month, Mr Harris said that immigration into Ireland was “too high”, in comments that drew criticism and saw him face accusations of dogwhistling and stoking division. Labour’s Limerick City TD Conor Sheehan accused Mr Harris of populism at his party’s conference at the weekend. Mr Harris said there would be proposals brought to Cabinet to iron out “anomalies” in the Irish immigration system compared with other countries, including on the family reunification processes.

Denis O’Brien made the statement in response to a report on media ownership in Ireland at the time. A communications consultant who issued an allegedly defamatory press release on behalf of businessman Denis O’Brien has told a High Court jury he stands over “every word” of the statement. Mr O’Brien and Mr Morrissey deny the material defamed the solicitors or means what the solicitors allege. Responding, Mr Morrissey said he stood over “every word” of the statement. He earlier said he stood over his facts “1,000 per cent”, and said he believed the press release was “carefully crafted”.
