Merge photo of EALA MP Winnie Odinga (L) and businessman Oketch SalahConflicting accounts have emerged between EALA MP Winnie Odinga and businessman Oketch Salah regarding the late Raila Odinga’s final moments. Winnie strongly refuted the claims, insisting that Salah was neither a confidant nor part of Raila’s inner circle. Winnie added that anyone issuing unverified claims about Raila’s final moments should be subjected to evaluation by relevant authorities. He said he had intentionally avoided commenting earlier out of respect for Raila’s widow, Mama Ida Odinga. Some critics argued that both sides should exercise restraint out of respect for the family, while others insisted that truthful accounts of Raila’s final moments are important for the historical record.

My parents are farmers. I witnessed a lot of harvests, but when climate change started happening, we could not understand what was happening. That is what inspired me to start my company and get people who are like-minded to build this solution to support smallholder farmers. In many places, they do not believe in female leadership; Even women offering solutions is not a thing they would take up. The call to othersTo other women and girls who want to innovate in agriculture or climate action, I would just say go for it.

President William Ruto and Governor Mutahi Kahiga during a meeting with UDA grassroots leaders from Nyeri County at Sagana State Lodge on January 17, 2026. [PCS]President William Ruto does not need political enemies in Mt Kenya, not when some of his most vocal allies in the region appear determined to do the damage for him. Politics is a team sport. When a president wins, his allies are expected to help consolidate goodwill, amplify development gains, and sell a coherent message to the public. Instead of operating as a disciplined political team, some leaders have chosen to rock the boat from within, replacing coordination with confrontation and collective responsibility with personal grandstanding.

By Andrew MwanguraEmail, thecoastnewspaper@gmail.comThe choice of the Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) to host this year’s Kenya-Operation Southern Readiness (K-OSR 2026) maritime security exercise is far more than a logistical decision. At its heart, K-OSR 2026 responds to the complex realities of our contemporary oceans. By rigourously fostering collaboration, K-OSR 2026 directly contributes to a safer maritime commons—where lawful trade thrives, navigation is secure, and oceanic resources are managed sustainably. K-OSR 2026, as he indicated, provides the vital platform for exchanging best practices and sharpening maritime domain awareness, while also nurturing the indispensable human connections among global maritime professionals.
