Monrovia — The Liberia Basketball Association (LBA) has ended a two-day coaching Clinic for Coaches of the first, second and female divisions of the National Basketball League. Coach Jallah, who holds a double Master’s Degree in Coaching, is a former head coach of the Liberia National Basketball team. For his part, NPA Coach Raphael Quaye, speaking on behalf of the Coaches, welcomed the coaching clinic and thanked the organizers of the two-day meeting. Meanwhile, Coach Jallah said he has observed a lot of poor decisions in the First Division Games. And we need to work on it to improve the quality of the game,” Coach Jallah said.

Frustration Shows on Final Day of Massaquoi Hearing Before Court Moves to Liberia
TAMPERE, Finland – Gibril Massaquoi’s frustration at facing war crimes charges that could send him to jail for life came through on his second day of testimony Friday. Massaquoi denies all charges, saying he was not in Liberia when the alleged crimes took place. In the second half of 2002, Massaquoi’s meetings with OTP representatives in Sierra Leone were frequent. It also provided immunity from prosecution for the role he had played in the conflict in Sierra Leone. Liberia: President Weah Kicks Off County Tour With Emphasis on Agriculture
Gbarnga, Bong County – President George Mannah Weah is encouraging all farmer organizations in the country to adopt the business approach to agriculture through, among others, organizing farmers around ‘cooperative’, which he said could contribute sustainably towards agriculture commercialization. The Liberian leader said this Friday when he officially launched the National Agriculture Trade Fair at the compound of the Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI). The theme of this year’s Trade Fair is “Invest in Agriculture for Prosperity and Development”. “Success of these depends on the performance of all stakeholders in the agriculture sector,” said President Weah. After taking a tour of the pavilions at the fair, President Weah said he was impressed with the quality of exhibits and congratulated exhibitors “for job well done”.

Liberia: Maritime Boss Nagbe Urges Liberians to take ownership of Platform Promoting Transparency, Integrity
Monrovia – The head of Liberia Maritime Authority, Commissioner Eugene Lenn Nagbe has called on Liberians to take ownership and ensure the full implementation of the Open Government Partnership’s latest National Action Plan (NAP) for 2020 to 2022. Headed by a national secretariat, the OGP has five thematic areas: transparency, accountability and integrity, citizens’ participation and inclusion, policy reforms and harnessing e-governance. For his part, British Ambassador to Liberia, Neil Bradley pledged his government’s continued support to the implementation of the National Action Plan. This, according to the plan, will increase public knowledge on bills introduced for passage. This commitment, according to the OGP seeks to address issues of weak legislative oversight, auditing, and public participation in the budgetary process.

Representative Tarponweh, through a release issued said the cremation was performed by the Green Pasture Funeral Home and has created fear in those residing within the vicinity where it was done, leading some of them to evacuate their homes. According to him, he was authorized by the Ministry of Health through the issuance of a permit by the National Public Health Institute of Liberia. In his explanation, he said: “Early Sunday morning, January 17, 2021, we saw a car belonging to the Green Pasture Funeral Home moving towards Emmanuel Barclay’s land. According to information gathered, you have been stating that the Ministry of Health has granted Green Pasture Funeral Home permission to conduct these cremations.

Monrovia – The International Trade Center (ITC) and the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) conducted a two-day Digital Marketing Training Programme for tourism sector stakeholders in partnership with the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT). The Digital Marketing Training was the first training of its kind in Liberia within the ITC and UNWTO tourism development support for Liberia. This Digital Marketing Training Course aims to help tourism leaders actively promote Liberia as a tourism destination. It provided us useful insights as to how to develop our own content when it comes to digital marketing. We appreciate the ITC and UNWTO for their support and collaboration towards the development of the Liberia tourism sector.

Chief Zanzan Kawar said the livelihoods of women traditional leaders including elders depend on preparing women and girls to become successful and respectable housewives and law abiding citizens, and as such, there was a need to provide alternative economic livelihood for practitioners. To mark the celebration of the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, the government and its partners organized an event which brought together the traditional leaders and called on them to see reasons to end the practice. So, it requires continued engagements with the main players in order to end its most sacred rituals, FGM.
