Ganta – Police In Ganta have arrested and charged a 40-year-old Filipino national for rape, sexual harassment and offensive touching. Suspect Michael Laraya, 38, was charged Wednesday, February 3 after reportedly attempting to sodomize a 20-year-old motorcyclist at the Angel Hill Top Guest House in the Guinea Road community in Ganta. The motorcyclist said he was lured to the guest house after Laraya promised to buy him a new motorbike. The management of the guest house confirmed during the police investigation that Laraya had been spending time at the guest house since Monday, February, but signed in twice with different names and nationalities. “During our investigation with Laraya he told us he lives ELWA junction in Monrovia and seconds later he told us he lives another place in Monrovia,” police said.

She continued, “When the school feeding food came, some families organized study classes with children sitting far apart. Mr. G. Markson Pewue, the Ministry of Education School Feeding Coordinator in Nimba County, lauded the WFP take-home rations as a unifying force for the family. Throughout 2021, WFP and the Ministry of Education will provide school meals to 90,000 students through cash-based transfers, take-home rations, and on-site school meals.

Lawmakers and contractors relationshipLawmakers of the county have established a strong bond with contactors in the county. Some lawmakers in the county are being excused of having share in companies the county award contract. This is seemingly the same situation with District Three lawmaker Marvin Cole and the Fah Architecture Design and Construction company. Monrovia – The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection says all is set for the direct transfer of cash to 15 thousand households in Montserrado County. The FCDO, she said has also committed US$5 million dollars to the regular cash transfers in Maryland, Bomi, River Gee and Grand Kru Counties. Speaking further, the Minister added that the initiative in Montserrado is a pilot project which is led by the Ministry’s Social Cash Transfer (SCT) Program under the Liberia Social Safety Nets Project which is being sponsored by FCDO/UKaid and the World Bank. She added that it is an expansion of the Government’s Social Protection portfolio as these households will be added to the Liberia Household Social Registry. Madam Desai lauded FCDO, the World Bank and USAID for their continued investment and engagement in building a strong social safety net for Liberia.

The traditional chief said she will ensure that the project makes the required impact in her district because the project is very important to all traditional leaders and chiefs. Dakeh Paye, Traditional Investigator for Bong County who spoke on behalf of all traditional leaders that attended the launch of the project expressed happiness for the project. He said the office of the Superintendent is happy to see such work being done with traditional leaders to make them understand statutory laws. She admonished the traditional leaders to make use of the statutory legal system in handling matters that require the statutory system.

Making the disclosure at the regular monthly meeting of the National Anti-Human Trafficking Taskforce held at the Ministry of Labour, the Chairman of the Taskforce, Labour Minister, Cllr. “In our last meeting we listed several programs to roll out as a means of accelerating the fight against trafficking in person and child labour. “Interestingly, we discovered that we have two cases in Grand Cape Mount County; we also discovered that there had been a lot of child labour cases and they have been handle at police stations and not going to court because child labour issues usually involved families. The five local NOGs are partnering with the National Human Trafficking Taskforce of Liberia.

Holding a war crimes trial on Liberian soil is a major development in the campaign for the establishment of a war crimes court for Liberia. Despite the 2009 recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Liberia’s Legislature is yet to pass a law to approve a war crimes court for Liberia. Together, the two groups destabilized the Mano River basin killing an estimated 250,000 in Liberia, 50,000 in Sierra Leone and 1,000 in Guinea. He joined the group at the age of 21 in 1991 after it raided his village of Pujehun in Southern Sierra Leone.

MONROVIA – The head of the National Road Fund, Mr. Boniface D. Satu says the road sector remains seriously challenged and there is a need for stakeholders of the sector to collaborate in addressing it. Mr. Satu said the meeting was aimed at reassuring stakeholders of the sector and the need to work together with commitment in transforming the sector. He believes that the road sector is challenged but is at the same time strongly optimistic that working together can help to address the problems appropriately. Satu lauded stakeholders for expressing the hope that everything will be done to address challenges facing road connectivity across the country. “The African Development Bank has ensured that we have all the computers needed, vehicles, marketing and branding and cash to support the road fund,” Mr. Satu said.

The source further alleged that the institution’s administration has refused to provide feeding for students, something that has, accordingly, also forced them to find alternative shelter at an extra unanticipated expense. According to the source, the administration is reportedly unable to provide other major campus needs, to include sanitary for over three years, which is also creating public health concern among the students. Apart from lack of feeding and household needs, the source alleged that TNIMA administration has since “refused to give students their US$100 stipend due them over the years. The source further stated that students have continuously engaged the TNIMA administration on the matter, but the institution remains tightlipped on the matter. “During the regime of Charles Taylor, students were at the dormitory, but since 2015 up to this regime, no one sleeps on campus and the dormitory needs serious renovation,” the source asserted.
