Sacramento, CA – Three former leaders of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) are appealing to the United States to impose sanctions on the Chair and Commissioners of the National Elections Commission (NEC) in Liberia if the December 2020 midterm senatorial elections are declared to be fraudulent and not conducted in keeping with acceptable international standards. Williams, who served as secretary-general and acting PUL president after Abalo also voted with his feet due to growing death threats. The former PUL leaders predict that if the NEC colludes with the government to declare a fraudulent result of the senatorial elections, violence could erupt again in Liberia, as was the case in 1985 when military ruler Samuel Doe rigged the presidential and legislative elections. The former PUL leaders also seriously condemn the widespread practice of rape in the Liberian society, and they called on the Weah government to institute strong measures to curb this evil. I have lived over two scores therefore, I have witnessed some of the cherished and regrettable moments in the history of our beloved country Liberia. Irrespective of our social, economic and political positions, we are all Liberians first before assuming our respective positions and sides. LET US NOT forget or pretend to forget what we have all been through over the last four decades. Let us not forget or pretend to forget about what happened during these periods. Troops Contributing Countries (TCC) that once contributed troops in Liberia during our crises are presently facing some economic, political or security issues.

The Editor,Don’t blame this Nigerian fraudster but blame his “Benevolent Dictator” President George Manneh Weah who has shown total contempt for the laws and constitution of Liberia. What else needs to happen for President Weah to take serious our lawmakers and their constitutional responsibilities to uphold the laws of Liberia? It means that President Weah is on his way to fulfilling his cherished title of a Benevolent Dictator that exalts him above the laws and constitution of Liberia. But President Weah thinks he is invincible; that the fate that befell his predecessors can never happen to him…until it is too late. Tiawon Gongloe, head of the Liberia National Bar Association is right to not want to do business with LACC which is headed by a Nigerian citizen, a clear violation of our laws by President Weah.
