Ms. Jalieba of the Catholic-run all-girls school, came first among three best-performing students for the 2020 WASSCE, including Alicia A. Wright, also of St. Theresa Convent High School (TSC) and Lela P. Wapoe of the Light International School System in Monrovia. Monrovia – Seventeen-year-old Andyietta Blessing Jalieba of St. Theresa Convent High School was in total disbelief when news broke that she dux this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), a type of standardized test in West Africa administered for students before completing secondary school. Ms. Jalieba of the Catholic-run all-girls school, came first among three best performing students for the 2020 WASSCE, including Alicia A. Wright, also of St. Theresa Convent High School (TSC) and Lela P. Wapoe of the Light International School System in Monrovia. I believe that I am not the smartest person who sat WASSCE, but it was just by the grace of God. The exams this year in Liberia was postponed due the COVID-19 global pandemic that interrupted school activities in Liberia and other parts of the region.

A BILL IMPEACHMENT drawn up by an Ad-hoc committee ordered Justice Ja’neh among other things, to be suspended from his job but giving all benefits and salaries pending the duration of the proceedings. THIS WAS CLEARLY evident last week when Senator Armah Jallah(NPP, Gparbolu), former Pro Temp of the Senate, in a quarter back play, acknowledged that the Senate was wrong to impeach Justice Ja’neh. Like Ja’neh impeachment is still hunting us. THE QUEST TO reign control over a kangaroo Supreme Court has brought the government to its knees and the country facing yet another international embarrassment amid threats of sanctions from the ECOWAS Court. THE WEAH administration must do all it can to follow through its end of the bargain regarding the ECOWAS ruling or risk falling further down the road of obscurity and international condemnation.

According to the University’s President, Dr. Wreh Wilson, they are a direct beneficiary of the new road, socially and economically. Cecelia Smith a Harper resident and seafood vendor located in Baroken market along the road summed it up best saying “it’s super…no mistakes on this road.”

Monrovia – A law group, Public Interest Law Advocacy Center (PILAC), has formally written the US Ambassador, Mr. Michel A. McCathy, informing him of an alleged training of 150 ruling party’s thugs at the Liberia National Police Training Academy in Paynesville. We’ve been informed that the Inspector General (IG) of the Liberia National Police (LNP), Patrick Sudue, in cahoots with ruling party officials, clandestinely and unlawfully recruited 150 able-bodied men for enlistment in the LNP, in violation of the laws governing recruitment. We understand the action of the IG was unilateral, and did not involve the leadership of the LNP, nor approved by the Policy Management Board, as required by law. Our information is that they were recruited from three militia groups—‘Sabu Unit’, ‘Kuba Unit’, and ‘Moscow Empire’; groups noted for carrying out bloody attacks against opposition figures and innocent civilians to instill fear and cause death. None of the three individuals linked to this alleged training has confirmed such nor deny this information.

Minister Nyenpan died in Accra, Ghana recently after he suffered a massive stroke in Monrovia and was flown out of the country for advanced treatment. However, his death has been marred by speculations and tons of conspiracy theories, with some claiming that he was poisoned. Rep. Zarzar comments come just a week after the family of the late Public Works Minister and former sinoe County Senator issued a statement, debunked attributions of his death to cyanide poisoning. The family warned the public from using the death of Mr. Nyenpan to achieve parochial interest or objectives. I am appealing to the public and the media as a whole that his death should not be politicized.

THE EDITOR:Urban Guerrilla Warfare is or has returned to Liberia, and the self-anointed leader is the popular, fearless, outspoken, insults-spewing PROPHET-KEY whose podcast is a top-rated Liberian-run talk show competing with another popular Radio Talk Show host, Henry Costa. On his popular Thursday, November 12, 2020 show, Prophet Key said he had recruited former rebel fighters for his new urban warfare. He has openly called for former rebel fighters to join his crusade aimed at toppling the George Weah-led CDC regime. Prophet Key alleged that Mr. McGill, Mr. Tweah and Mayor Koijee were responsible for the alleged food-poisoning death last month of Public Works Minister Mobutu Nyenpan who died later in Ghana. Meanwhile, Mobutu’s younger brother Ojuku Nyenpan issued a “Family Statement” last Sunday in which he denied that his brother was poisoned.

This matter was heard and adjudged at the Ecowas court. The Ecowas court ordered the Liberian government to pay in damages the amount of (US$ 726,982) to Dr. George Boley. Since the rendition of the court’s ruling, the Liberian government has not paid a dime to him. Judging from the past and looking at the way in which the previous government overlooked or ignored the Ecowas court’s ruling, I am thinking if this current government would abide by the court’s ruling regarding the judgement of the court, ordering the government to pay ( US$ 200,000) to Cllr. Assuming that the government of Liberia does not adhere to the Ecowas court’s ruling, what is or are the legal ramifications thereof?

The event which took place outside of Monrovia in the city of Paynesville was graced by a conglomeration of private sector actors under the banner Liberia Private Sector Climate Action Alliance (LIFSCAA), students, officials of government and the donor community. The dialogue was held under the theme “Private Sector – a Catalyst in Boosting NDC Implementation for a Resilient Economy.”However, the objective of the event was to provide and encourage the participation and contribution of the private sector in the revision process of the NDC. “All these interventions, as much as they are critical, need to be given substantive action and that can only come about with involvement of the private sector; why because the private sector has always been at the heart and soul of driving the economy,” stressed Prof. Tarpeh. “One of the misconceptions in the past is that things like climate change should be supported by donor funds, NGO activity and other means doing climate change projects,” stated LIPSCAA acting chairman. Private sector stakeholders at the Dialogue have set up a private sector working group on climate adaptation to remain engaged with the EPA, National Investment Commission, the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and other actors in fostering access to private sector financing and public private partnerships to fund climate change adaptation initiatives in Liberia.

Monrovia – Grand Kru County District 2 Representative J. Fanati Koffa has frowned at what he calls “low scale patriotism in Liberia, urging the graduate school leadership of the University of Liberia to uphold such value. Dr. Nelson committed the university administration’s willingness to work effectively with the graduate school leadership, once those in the leadership continue to show mutual respect. “We the newly installed officers of the UL Graduate School seize this opportunity to thank all the students for installing us. He said no one person has monopoly over national development, therefore, instead of disrespecting national leadership, there is a need to constructively help national growth. The UL Graduate Class President at the same time emphasized the need that his leadership build such a relationship with the UL administration in order to make an impact on the UL students’ populace.

Meanwhile, the Public Interest Law Advocacy Center has threatened to draw the attention of the International Community to the enlisting of members of “domestic terrorist groups if IG Sudue does not abandon his quest. This is just the first face of the judgment,” the Solicitor General of Liberia said. He says the impeachment case between the Liberia government and the ECOWAS Court of Justice has no precedence before the court. The fact, in that case, is not synonymous with the case involving the Republic of Liberia,” Cllr. “So, all the cases the ECOWAS court cited are all criminal cases. It was a political trial,” the Solicitor General of Liberia said.

However, Emile Durkhiem, whom I concord with emphasis that the force which determines the suicide, is not psychological but social, it is the result of social disorganization or lack of social integration or social solidarity. From Durkheim’s perspective, behavior is caused by social facts, which are social forces that surround society, and therefore suicide or attempt suicide is a social fact in its own right. It is obvious that there have been unaddressed issue that Mr. Ponpon expected to have been redressed, but to no avail or not as expected. According to sociological perspective on social inequality, a social unequal society is one that is organized by hierarchies of class, race, and gender that unequally distributes access to resources and rights. It is essential that the court find it necessary to serve social justice to all its citizens.
