Liberia: Foreign Minister Kemayah & EU Africa Chief, Koen Vervaeke, Reaffirm Commitment to Multilateral Cooperation
MONROVIA – Liberia’s Foreign Minister Honorable Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah arrived in Brussels, Belgium for a one-day working session with EU officials on November 6, 2020. Minister Kemayah, further asserted that the ripple effect of COVID-19 has seriously affected the economies of developing countries with Liberia being no exception. He also assured the EU of Liberia’s current efforts in resolving the issues concerning the Yellow-Card imposed by the EU on Liberia Maritime and fisheries activities. For his part, Ambassador Koen Vervaeke expressed appreciation for the level of commitment and cooperation of the Government of Liberia towards multilateralism. He thanked foreign Minister Kemayah for the exchange and congratulated him for his recent appointment.

Liberia: Remains of Former Public Works Minister, Mobutu Nyenpan Brought Back to Liberia
MONROVIA – The remains of fallen Public Works Minister Mobutu Vlah-Nyepan was on Thursday evening returned to Liberia. The Ministry of Public Works on Wednesday called on the public honor their former boss and expressed disappointment in rumors surrounding his death. Minister Nyenpan went into coma before doctors at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center managed to stabilize him after which he was flown to neighboring Ghana for further treatment. Minister Nyenpan had been undergoing intense treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana over the past two months. A former Senator from Sinoe County, Mr. Nyenpan, 54, was appointed by President Weah in February 2018 and confirmed by the Senate on February 15, 2018 as Minister of Public Works.

Liberia, Morocco Sign Bilateral Agreements to Boost Agriculture, Health Sectors
The MOU calls for the establishment of a Joint Working Group comprising of members from the Moroccan Ministry of Health and the Liberian Ministry of Health to execute the Cooperation on Health within a five-year period. The Cooperation on Higher Education and Research signed between Liberia and Morocco seeks to strengthen and increase cooperative relations between the two countries in higher education and scientific research. Under the agreement signed, Liberia and Morocco will ensure the establishment of “direct educational collaboration between universities and other higher education institutions of both countries”. The capacity of Liberian academic staff will also be developed through “short-term stays in Morocco” under the MOU. The financial matters or funding of the activities under the agriculture cooperation between Liberia and Morocco will be carried out within the scope of the MOU signed, and subjected to the joint decision of both parties.

Liberia Electricity Corporation Jailed Employee For Alleged Power Theft
Monrovia – Victor Yowo, an ordinary security personnel of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), has spent two nights behind bars at the Monrovia Central Prison, commonly known as South Beach for alleged power theft. Yowo was incarcerated at the Monrovia Central Prison on Wednesday by Monrovia City Court Judge Jomah Jallah for his alleged involvement in power theft. However, power theft in Liberia is a common practice among community members who feel frustrated over the bureaucracy involved in getting electricity from the state corporation. Based on this, in August 2019, the Liberian Senate in its 57th day sitting passed President George Weah Power Theft Bill. The bill, which seeks to criminalize power theft as felonious crime was signed and published into handbill to reduce the rampant stealing of current.

Liberia: MOCSA Foundation Provides Mobile Health Services to Residents In Lower Montserrado County
Bensonville – A not-for-profit organization, Making Our Children Safe Again Foundation (MOCSA), during the weekend in Kollieman Town, Bentol provided mobile healthcare services to residents within several communities. The organization sponsored a bi-monthly deploy its mobile medical team to reach people who have no access to proper health services. According to the executive director, Madam Yuconjay N. Barchue, these people are struggling and the mobile team may be their only means of acquiring unique healthcare services. Dr. Harris explained that they usually use the mobile health services to treat 75 to 100 patients including men and pregnant women, though their primary focus is on children’s welfare. “The distance to go the hospital is costly, I want to appreciate MOCSA for firstly rendering services to the school and now health services,” Ms Sumo said.
