MONROVIA – The Acting Foreign Affairs Minister, Henry B. Fahnbulleh, has on behalf of the Government of Liberia renewed the country’s support to the implementation of the Paris Agreement. This initiative he said, allows EPA as party to submit our Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) that is now referred to as National Determined Contribution (NDC). Dobayou asserted that, climate change is no longer considered a fringe issue, nor something that can be managed by Liberia EPA alone. However, he mentioned that “Liberia made a commitment to the world in 2015 collectively through the Paris Agreement. The Paris Agreement requires all Parties to put together their best efforts through nationally determined contributions (NDCs) to be reviewed periodically.

MONROVIA – The Board of Governors of the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL), during its 19 August 2020 sitting on Monetary Policy’s decision, agreed to retain the monetary policy rate of 25.0% based on projected headline inflation of approximately 17.0% for quarter three of 2020. The announcement to maintain the current monetary policy rate is partly predicated on the evolving global economic dynamics, which has transmitted adverse effects to domestic economic developments. In May this year, the Central Bank lowered its monetary policy rate from 30.0% to 25.0%. Monetary Policy Rates: In June 2020, monetary policy rates stabilized at 0.25% and 0.10% in the United States and United Kingdom, respectively and negative 0.50% in the European Union. Nuquay intimated that decision of the people of lower Margibi County to support him is based on their abiding faith and commitment to the division and separation of power in Margibi County, adding that their decisions speak about their commitment to upholding the tradition of the county. GANTA, Nimba – The Environmental Protection Agency of Liberia (EPA), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) last weekend concluded a two-day training for over 40 female journalists on how to report environmental issues. Dobayou said female reporters have over the years shown lack of interest in the environment and pleaded with members of the Female Journalists Associate of Liberia (FeJAL) to begin considering reporting environmental issues like climate change. The acting EPA boss said the agency intends to develop a pool of female reporters whose specific focus will be directly on environmental issues. To motivate environmental reporting, the Acting EPA Boss announced that the agency would sponsor environmental award during the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) annual award ceremony. Dobayou encouraged female journalists to utilize what they learned and noted that there are lots of opportunities out there including international environmental training and conferences.

Your Honor:The leadership of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), the representative body of journalists and media institutions in Liberia extends heartfelt greetings to you and the Full Bench of the Supreme Court of Liberia and the Judiciary Branch of the Government of Liberia. Your Honor, we submit that the allegation and perception of corruption in the judiciary are rampant in the reports of local and international corruption watchdog groups. Before addressing the disturbing implications of your comments, we have had time to gather some of the reports for your information. Mr. Klah was found guilty for “gross impropriety and irregularity” for what the Honorable Supreme Court of Liberia adjudged as solicitation of a bribe from a complainant. Justice Nagbe, a former senator, had previously co-chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee with defendant Sherman before being confirmed as a Supreme Court justice by the same committee.

The coup leaders previously said they would stage elections “within a reasonable time”. ECOWAS CANNOT project itself as an impartial monitor while at the same time being seen as playing a double standard to protect one of its own. ECOWAS should not sit by and allow the situation in the Ivory Coast to get out of hand. Just as they have come down hard on the coup leaders in Mali, they owe it to the stability in the subregion to do the same in the Ivory Coast. ECOWAS CANNOT project itself as an impartial monitor while at the same time being seen as playing a double standard to protect one of its own.

We will fight and defeat rape, we will fight and defeat patriarchy, and we will fight and defeat inequality! That is why as a man of conscience I have leapt to the side of our women and girls fighting against rape. Ending rape is not a stand-alone issue for women but a national struggle for decency in a society in need of redemption. It is because of the bold action of you women to come out in protest aginst rape, abuse, and social destruction. It sends the message that to fight injustice we cannot do it as a stand-alone project in our atomized silos, but by connecting struggles, building solidarity, and taking a stance.

My statement was a conditional statement that if the National Election Commission (NEC) does not ensure that the voter registration roll is scrubbed, there could be irregularities. My sincere hope is that the Government of Liberia will do all that it can to ensure fair and free elections. In 2017 the Supreme Court of the Republic of Liberia mandated that the Government of Liberia, through the NEC, clean the existing voter registration roll. If the prescription from the Supreme Court is not adhered to, fertile ground for fraud could be created. One such start is to ensure that the voter registration roll is cleaned.

National Benefits:According to Weh, the bill satisfies a provision as enshrined in Article 36 of the 1986 Constitution. There is an argument that the fixed remuneration as stated herein is annually captured in the National Budget which is law. The 5k bill, however, sets the stage for critical reform from fixed remuneration in the generalized budget law to a specific and appropriate legislation. Weh’ communication: “There is a phrase in Article 5 (c) of the Constitution that says “appropriate legislation”. An exclusively tabled bill is considered appropriate (draft) legislation for fixed remuneration by law.
