PIAC had uncovered no evidence linking the subject of the complaints, in particular the President, under consideration to the agriculture cases. The panel however noted that the complainants did not state clearly whether these were awards made personally to the President or as President of the Bank. The Panel therefore concurs with the decision of the Committee to dismiss this allegation against the President. The complainants alleged that senior management abuse the travel policy without sanction. It has to be recognized that the President as the elected head of the Bank has to engage in diplomatic outreach.

Monrovia – As part of her ongoing support to end COVID-19 in Liberia, First Lady Clar Marie Weah has donated assorted medical supplies and food to Liberia’s two largest regional referral and maternity hospitals in central Liberia – Phebe and C. B. Dunbar Hospitals. The medical supplies, including nearly 5,000 surgical masks, 14 electronic thermometers and 110 bags (25kg each) of rice, were donated over the weekend in Bong County. Mr. Kortu said the donation of medical supplies and food demonstrates the First Lady’s concern about the safety and wellbeing of health workers. Dr. Sibley said the hospital was in dire need of such support, especially the medical supplies, as the facility is gradually reopening its doors to the public following a brief period of closure. Phebe Hospital was shut down recently after the Medical Director himself alongwith seven health workers tested positive of the novel coronavirus.

“The actions being taken are intended to allow Firestone Liberia to remain a core investor in the country. “Firestone Liberia entered into this process in good faith and is disappointed in recent statements by some government officials alleging the company is not in compliance with the laws of Liberia and obligations under its Concession Agreement. Firestone Liberia fully respects this process, and we have hoped that all parties would do the same. The workforce reduction comes as Margibi, where Firestone Liberia is headquartered is bracing for what is poised to be a hotly-contested midterm Senatorial elections with enormous implications for the county. The ruling, Coalition for Democratic Change’s government, is hoping to slow down Firestone’s workforce reduction.

Civitas, however, averred that because Ms. Reeves Taylor ultimately did not face trial in the UK, the evidence against her was not tested in a court of law. Ms Reeves Taylor declared that their work “has to stop”. The GJRP is, and always has been, on the side of the forgotten Liberian victims – the same victims that Ms Reeves Taylor ruthlessly labels “malicious”, “vicious” and “liars”. “Like many of the unfounded claims made by Ms Reeves Taylor, this is demonstrably untrue. Over 35 witnesses testified to his direct and indirect involvement with war crimes during the civil war.

ACCORDING TO the national public health Institute of Liberia, as of July 28, the country has recorded 1,177 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 459 of this being active cases. We would like to caution the Ministry of Education to ensure schools put in place health protocols that will ensure students are not exposed to the risk of contracting COVID-19. Many public schools across the country have decried the lack of COVID-19 supplies like nose masks, soap, and disinfectants. WHAT WILL it cost the government to purchase thermometer for every public schools in the country? Every public health response must be implemented with rigor and consistency.

Beyond the public space, questions are also being asked internally, particularly by the now dismissed Deputy Minister for Small Business Administration Jamima Wolokollie, whose department should have had direct oversight over the loan program as per its official terms of reference as Small Business Administration Department. But addressing his long awaited press conference on July 8, 2020, Minister Tarpeh denied that he was single-handedly disbursing the loan money to the beneficiaries from his office. Mrs. Wolokolie has exhibited documents showing that Prof. Tarpeh instructed that US$3,040.00 be taken from the US$8,000.00 allotted for radio jingles to publicize the loan program. The though-talking former Deputy Minister of Commerce for Small Business Administration has reiterated her willingness and preparedness to submit to a credible forensic audit or a truly independent investigation of the disbursement of the Small Business Pro-poor Development Fund (SBPDF). Mrs. Wolokolie has once again expressed her profound respect for the memories of fallen Montserrado County # 9 Representative Munah Pelham Youngblood whose soul is currently resting in peace.

In a May 13th statement, the WHO urged governments to consider decongesting prisons to avert possible outbreaks among prison populations. Cells intended for four or five inmates sometimes hold up to 10 persons at a time, without enough beds. Charlie said they do not take chances, because suspects “may show signs and symptoms [of COVID-19] while in detention”. Another group seeking the early release of convicts with less serious crimes and pre-trail detainees is the Prison Fellowship of Liberia. Francis Kollie, says the lack of essential drugs at prison facilities amid the COVID-19 pandemic is another cause for concern.
