Beijing – The Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has approved Liberia’s membership at its Fifth Annual Meeting held in Beijing, China, on Tuesday, July 28, 2020. This approval comes as President George Manneh Weah seeks to expand Liberia’s global economic leadership and presence to foster regional cooperation, economic development and integration. With the membership approved, Liberia stands to benefit from the announced US$ 10 billion COVID-19 pandemic support package for member countries. He used the occasion to thank President George M. Monrovia – Just five months before Liberians head to the polls in the Midterm Senatorial elections, Foreign Minister Gbezohnga Findley is stepping down from his post. Mr. Findley was recently petitioned by traditional leaders of Grand Bassa County along with youth and women groups to return to the county and represent them at the Senate by contesting the December 8 special election. The Traditional leaders headed by the Chief Grand Zoe of Grand Bassa Edward Garmah, said they have evaluated all of the aspirants and believe that Findley is the most suited to make a representation for them. Mr. assured the residents of Grand Bassa County of his commitment to reach out to President Weah to acquaint him with the Bassa people request for him to contest the Special Senatorial Election in Bassa. As of the 2008 Census, it had a population of 224,839, making it the fifth most populous county in Liberia.

However, the highest UK Court had a slightly different understanding of the kind of authority / control that is required under that particular UK law. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE that the crimes that Agnes Taylor allegedly committed could qualify as war crimes and crimes against humanity. Unfortunately, they could not be charged as such under UK law. In fact, the case never went to trial, no witnesses or victims ever got to testify against Agnes Taylor.

MONROVIA – Following recent consultation with the health authorities, the Ministry of Education wishes to officially announce the reopening of schools for additional levels from 6th grade to 11th grade. The reopening is aimed at first completing the end of the Academic Calendar for 2019/2020 and the preparation for the new academic year 2020/2021. Schools are urged to facilitate the packaging of lessons as homework for the ECE to 5th-grade students and plan for a one-time assessment. The school hour will run from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM daily from Monday to Saturday and Sunday in the case of Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) School students. Schools should also complete a study guide and any relevant information on final assessment of students and provided to parents.

This article attempts to shape academic debates on public debt performance and the direction of fiscal policy in Liberia, especially in the context of Liberia’s debt carrying capacity. External debt rose by 765.3 percent (US$541.45 million) to US$612.2 million, from US$70.75 million while domestic debt decreased by 14.80 percent (or US$46.24 million) to US$266.10 million, from US$312.43 million during the same period. The public debt stock data for 2 years and 3 months spanning 2018 and end-March 2020 paints this picture of the current government’s debt performance. Total public debt rose by 71.15 percent (or US$624.88 million) to US$1,503.08 million at end-March 2020, from US$878.2 million at end-2017. Of the total stock of public debt at end-March 2020, external debt accounted for US$898.68 million and domestic debt, US$604.40 million.
