The Mayor is part of a few government officials who have adhered to health authorities’ appeal for voluntary testing amidst a sharp increase in the number of coronavirus cases in Liberia. MONROVIA – The Mayor of Monrovia has undergone voluntary testing for coronavirus and is urging all residents within Monrovia to follow his example by turning up at any of the sample collection sites to give samples for testing for the COVID-19. The Ministry of Health and the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) have been calling on the public, especially public officials to voluntarily avail themselves for COVID-19 test. Liberia currently has 516 confirmed cases, 243 active cases, 240 recovery and 33 deaths with the total of 12 counties affected. The Monrovia City Mayor reechoed calls for every employee of the Monrovia City Government as well as Active Case Finders, Mobilizers and Communicators to lead by example by participating in the voluntary COVID-19 testing exercise.

Madam Flomo then collected the items from the trunk of the car and made away with them. Police investigation, according to the charge sheet, held defendant Flomo responsible for the alleged stealing of missing items at the wedding ceremonies. However, Ms. Flomo later told judicial reporters that stealing at wedding ceremonies is her habit.

Gad and other Guests celebrating the 30th Day of the African Child on Tuesday, 16 June 2020 at the ECOWAS House in MonroviaMonrovia – When Liberia joined the African continent in commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Day of the African Child, a strong call for access to the “child-friendly justice” system in Africa was highlighted. Despite the government’s efforts, Ambassador Ajisomo stressed that a lot has to be done as the problems affecting Liberian children are still enormous and require urgent attention. According to the ECOWAS Ambassador, the rights of the African child have been neglected by parents or guardians whom, he said, have abandoned their responsibility to their children. He also mentioned that the country’s justice system has not paid adequate attention and commitment to promoting “child-friendly justice system. The ECOWAS Ambassador also praised Liberia for ratifying the African Charter on the rights and welfare of the child in 1992 and the Convention on the rights of the child on the 4th of June, 1993, and domesticated both under the Children Law of Liberia 2012.

Monrovia – LISCR FC have confirmed the departure of striker Sam Kollie, who joined the club in 2018. “We can confirm the departure of Sam Kollie after the expiration of his contract. LISCR signed the forward from Fassell FC as a free agent on a three-year deal in February of 2018. Prior to joining LISCR FC, Kollie was among the best strikers on the local scene for years. COVID-19: ECOWAS Ministerial Coordinating Committee Recommends Gradual, Coordinated Opening of Borders
ABUJA – The ECOWAS Ministerial Coordination Committee on Transport, Logistics and Trade has made recommendations on the harmonized and gradual re-opening of land, air and sea borders for restoring cross border economic activities, especially for movement of humanitarian personnel, medical supplies and equipment and essential goods in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. They also held that the reopening has become imperative in view of the need to revive the economies of ECOWAS member countries. Following a review of the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic in respective Member States, a third phase of opening air and land borders to other countries with low and controlled levels (according to WHO classifications) of COVID-19 contamination rates will be pursued. The Ministers further called for accurate information sharing on opening-up measures among Member States in the spirit of solidarity, collective self-reliance and inter-State co- operation through bilateral and multilateral consultations. The Ministerial Coordinating Committee, chaired by Nigeria’s Aviation Minister Senator Hadi Sirika, made a plea for “strong and determined support for the ownership and implementation of the guidelines” once adopted by the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.

Mr. Bloh referenced Section 2.5 of the Elections Law which prohibits anyone on the Board of Commissioners at the Elections Commission from being a political party affiliate.

They are migrants who were obviously prepared to risk their lives by crossing the Mediterranean Sea in small boats to Europe. Despite these dreadful stats, the stranded Liberians in Niger said they were hopeful of reaching either Spain, Italy, or Greece to seek greener pasture. But their journeys were cut short when they were arrested by police and “deported to the desert of Niger” – the IOM camp. Alieu Bility is regarded as the leader for the stranded Liberian migrants in the IOM camp. When asked about the 62 stranded migrants in Niger, Mr. Logan said the LRRC “don’t have enough information on them” and that he will contact the Liberia Immigration Service to get further clarity.

Said the NaFAA statement: “It is worth clarifying that invitation for pre-licensing inspection does not necessary means that those six vessels will be licensed to fish in Liberia waters. As part of the Fisheries 2010 regulation and consistent with NaFAA’s 2010 Act, all fishing vessels licensed to fish in Liberia’s territorial waters must present a ‘CATCH PLAN’ which will be in line with the NaFAA’s Fisheries Management Plan (FMP). However, NaFAA’s remain focus and committed to providing more fresh fish on our domestic market so as to eradicate food insecurity. And as a transparent institution, the list of license vessels is published on its website.
